| I'm in the same boat man... With the price of vinyl and international shipping getting so expensive I find myself downloading more tracks now that there are more labels that offer mp3's. I got one sldz1200 now (don't hate... its a good deck if your not a scratch dj) and was thinking of picking up another. Or maybe just selling that and picking up 2 cdj1000mk2's so I'm more used to them when I play out. Although nothing feels like vinyl and that warm analog sound is heaven. Plus some tracks you still get get an mp3 of. |

Why not sell the CDJ and buy some records that you can spin on the decks?
Just make sure to manage the money. Don't spend it all at once in vinyl. If you manage the money well, you should be able to buy vinyl for at least the next six months. |

Right now, another CD turntable would be a much wiser investment, even if I have to save for a bit. As much as I love my Techs, I've already been short on cash for many months (haven't bought an order of vinyl since October) and I'm looking at college soon, buying a car, paying insurance, possibly moving into my own place, etc... If I had two CDJ's, I could afford an excellent supply of digital tracks no problem.
Anyways... right now, I'm leaning towards selling one Tech (MK5, bought new), they're in perfect condition, and with the Whitelabel I could probably pull $400-450 for it (hopefully). That would get me about half way there, and with a few upcoming one time jobs I have coming up, and some stuff I can sell, I might be able to save up the rest for another CDJ.
I've also considered a lower end model (like a CDJ-800), but I am in love with my CDJ-1000 and I can be patient when it comes to waiting for good gear. |

| i dont see why you dont just buy used vinyl. i dont pay more than 2-3 USD for my records. for me vinyl is about the same price as Mp3. |

I'm still really on the fence about this...
I'm not a fan of Serato/FS and such. I like the versatility of CDs, plus I could never play out on such a setup, as I have no laptop (and theres no way I could afford one if I can't even afford records).
I just bought a car and I'm getting ed on insurance, so more than ever the odds of me being able to afford a decent record collection or to purely save up for another CDJ are slim. I have Techs MK5's that I bought brand new, they are in PERFECT condition, and they have Shure Whitelabels... I don't see why I couldn't get $400 for each deck. I might be able to sell 20-40 records that I don't especially care for, which could probably bring me $100 at least.
I really love my Techs, but I also really love to spin, period. My one CDJ limits me to mixing with a record at least every other track, and I haven't been able to buy records since last October. My decks are collecting dust because I am simply bored to of my tracks. If I had another CDJ, I could easily afford songs off BeatPort or other digital sites. Keeping a decent record collection at this point is simply not an option... I have to pay my car, my ed up insurance costs, and soon I'll be moving into my own place as well once I get a better job. I really want to spin, but just can't afford vinyl. On the other hand, I love my Techs too...
I'm considering selling one to pay for half of a CDJ, or selling both and buying one now. I can't decide, it's driving me nuts. |

Well I was in the same boat. I had just bought about two weeks ago two Technics 1210 MK5s. I had to exchange one of them because the spindle was broken on it and then I got another one. After thinking about it for a little while, I decided to take them all back and save up now for CDJ 1000 MK2s. With stores like AudioJelly, EDM Digitial, Beatport and others, the availability of MP3s at a high quality bitrate (320 Kbps) and them being much less expensive than one record makes more sense.
I mean I seriously doubt that DJs will still be spinning on vinyl in another 5 to 10 years. Sure there will still be those who play old skool stuff on vinyl, but it's the 21st century, and CDs last longer, take up less space, and you can edit tracks and burn them, remix them, produce (play your own stuff) and mix and choose the remixes, rather than having them selected for you on vinyl records, with maybe one or two tracks you don't even like. Who wants to spend $9.99 (online at least...there aren't many records stores that sell prog and trance in the Detroit area) just for one song or remix that you might like on vinyl when you can just get it online now as low as $0.99 to $1.75 (depending on the store..the quality and the exchange currency).
Many labels are now putting their whole catalogues online. Yet another advantage is always having the MP3s and getting stuff that is no longer repressed on vinyl. There are many older stuff that I would love to have on vinyl, but they haven't repressed it, and god knows when it will next be repressed. I would much rather have a case load of thousands of songs, where I can play many different genres and build sets up better, rather than play the same songs over and over on vinyl, as well as have cases upon cases, shelves upon shelves of vinyl records, when all I would need to do is sort through a cd case, and believe me I have plenty. CDJs require just as much skill as turntables, if not more, and offer so much more to do. Yes people will say "its the visual aspect of it" well in my opinion it's just as visual with CDs, and is that really important? isn't the DJs ability to connect with crowds, play good tunes and have good sets and good mixing. Oh and one more point...in the DJ Mag Top 100 of 2004 issue, 13 DJs mentioned CDJ 1000 as being their favorite equipment, and many noted that CDs would replace (or are replacing vinyl) as the medium they use. |

Yeah save up for another 1000. The 1000...although it is expensive...seems like a better bet, considering it will last you a long time, no different than a Technics turntable. |
