Right now I have 2 techs MK5's and 1 CDJ-1000. I love my techs, and I love to use vinyl, but I just can't afford to buy records any more, and it's really driving me crazy. I haven't bought records since October, and haven't recorded a set since December, because I'm just sick and tired of the tracks I have. The cost of vinyl is just too much for me at this point.

I'm considering ripping my vinyl to CD, selling my two techs and going for 2 CDJ-1000s. Whenever I get a steady income again, I could buy another turntable or two. But I just don't know... I love my techs, they will always have a special place in my heart, but I really really really want to start spinning again with some fresh tracks.

What to do?

OR, you could just add a cdj or two to your setup and just buy mp3s/wavs off of teh intarweb instead of vinyl.

Would you sell your children? Didn't think so :)

If you can't swing another CDJ-1000, how about a less expensive deck like the CDJ-200? Then you can start downloading fresh music from places like beatport or djdownloads and start fresh.

Dunno how many vinyls you have but if you've got 1 cdj why not get new tracks for that and then mix em with the records you already have but just don't use the same tunes all the time or even try out different mixes on the records.

If you back up all your tunes your still gonna have the same tracks but they will be on cd :conf:

Hard choice to make but go with whatever you wanna do like you say you can always buy another TT eventually, why not sell one deck and some reords and get a cdj200 or something?

save up and get a cdj, save up again get the other one :D dont sell the techs man.......you will regret it

Gotta agree on the "don't sell"! I used to own 2 technics when i was 17. Since I was pretty unable to get any records (no job, no credit card, living in Norway and the year beeing 1996... in other words no internet-ordering..hehe), i decided to sell them and buy a double denon cd-deck. But it didn't take long before i started to miss my good old techs. The feeling and last but no least the smell of them made me buy new ones 3 years later. And I never looked back! However, i bought a single pioneer cd-deck a year ago to accomodate my vinyl, but the techs are still my babies.

So bottom line is... If you have them, don't sell them! Get a cd-player AS WELL! I can almost guarantee you will miss your techs.

Oh, and one more thing... Anyone else thinks the smell of a SL1210 is the sweetest smell in the world? And it never wears off:)

Well the thing is, I already have one CDJ-1000. I can afford a good supply of digital tracks, but I'm forced to mix into a vinyl record every time I use a CD. I have about 70-80 records, but these were all bought in clumps of about 10-12 at a time, and I haven't even bought any since October. Half of them simply don't fit into my current style, and the rest have been used over and over. I'm quite simply bored of them, and I've hardly touched my decks in months because of it.

If I sell my techs, I could afford another CDJ-1000. Don't get me wrong, I love vinyl and my techs, and down the line when I have a better income I will buy another pair. But for now, another CDJ would really really help me a lot.
i got big pants
i say do what will make you happy. we're not the ones that are going to be spinning on that specific setup.

but for me, if i were in your situation, i'd at least keep one deck. theres just something about a track on wax thats damn sexy. I feel like i have more control over it over a cd deck. and the feel of it...mmmmmmmmmmmm

Oops.. didn't read your post properly:) I can understand your problem.. And I can't say I have a good solution for you either.. Just try to save up and go for the best value-for-money cd-player you can get your hands on.. Look for a used one on ebay or something.. Just don't let your techs go. Or maybe some kind of pc-controller? Not sure about the cost or the name, but there's a product out there where you hook up your computer to your turntables, play some special time-code records on your turntables and control mp3's that way.. But I'm sure you know about this already:) Not sure what producer it was.. Think maybe it's Numark. Then you would get the best of both worlds! Maybe sell your cd-deck instead.. That's the only thing I can think of..Hope it helps. Good luck!

Edited..: The name is Stanton Final Scratch. :)

well what i did was i saved up for a pair of cdjs...spent a majority of my $$ on mp3 downloads...and kept buying vinyl to a minimum(2 to 3 pieces a mth)....that way i had lots more to play...and my record collection still increased...

Don't totally convert....

Just sell 1 mk5 and get another cdj that way you'll have 2cdj's and still have vinyl so you can buy rare vinyl and still have something to spin it on... so you can still buy vinyl like once every few months.
