You can't buy lighters until you're 19+

What kind of moronic government do we have that they can refuse to sell you rolling papers or lighters unless you're 19+?
I went with a few friends to get papers yesterday and one goes in to buy papers. He tells her that she has to be 19 and still asks her for ID when she says she isn't and refuses to sell her the papes. Me being the only legal one in the car I had to go in and grab them.
The legal age to smoke is 16 and yet you can't buy a lighter or "tobacco" rolling papers until you're 19? Wow.

actually its illegal to smoke unless you are 19..
As for the papers etc i wasnt aware that this was the law. If it is thats plain dumb. If it isnt then this woman has moralistic issues she needs to resolve and shouldnt be in the business. |

Oh it's law, they have a sign for it in some gas stations listing what they can ID you for you.
I thought it was 16 to smoke, 19 to buy, when was that changed too? It was stupid to begin with though. |

Yes I do think it's stupid. However, I was referring to rolling papers..
The "in your face" approach that is currently being taken by the government is definitely the wrong way to govern things. But I do agree that you should be 19+ to smoke, which would logically apply to rolling papers since they serve no other purpose. |

I think it should be at least 18. You can vote and go to war but you cant be trusted to smoke or drink? Pretty dumb if you ask me |

That's exactly how I feel. You can buy porn and be considered an adult when you commit any crime but you can't smoke or drink. They should make everything legal at either 18 or 19. |

if anything the way we are going you will be 25 soon before you can do anything, thats if its legal at all.
