Moving to DC in late August, how is the scene?

| Im curious how the clubs in DC are. Are most of the people friendly or a bunch of drunk frat guys? Does the larger names usually get a good crowd? Any TA weekly parties or anything in that area? |

The crowds are a mix of stupid drunk frat guys, rich obnoxious middle-eastern & mediterannean douchebags, angry black guys trying to be "thugs" (or dumb white guys trying to be black guys trying to be thugs for that matter), and the dumb bitches that accompany all of them.
This is sprinkled with some nice/chill people who are into EDM usually members of TA, Groovanauts, or the buzzboard.
We get a decent amount of "big-name" djs. The really big ones (pvd, tiesto, etc) always draw a packed house. There is a fairly decent amount of diversity in the type of music (except for Techno, which is lacking in spades).
Glow (www.clubglow.com) is predominantly euro-trance or markus schulz type "progressive" stuff, but are starting to branch out into popular house djs (ie, deep dish, morillo, howells). They share the club with a large hip-hop area and the crowd that accompanies it.
Cubik and buzzlife (www.buzzlife.com) bring a fairly wide range of DnB, breaks, house, and electro DJs/live-acts. They also bring a lot of crappy rave-circuit DJs that please the dumb raver crowd. They still have some really good nights, but general concensus is that it really isn't as good as it used to be.
Pulse @ Andalu (www.pulsedc.com/index_pulse.html) brings in local djs and mid-level international/national DJs, and is pretty much 100% house.
Five (www.fivedc.com) gets some good acts & DJs in various genres, but it is a much smaller club than Nation or FUR. They also seem to be the only place in DC to book semi-famous Techno djs.
The Loft @ Dream brings in relativley famous UK Trance and euro-trance DJs on a monthly basis. Dream itself is a trendy hip-hop club, which somehow manages to be pretentious and ghetto simultaneously.
The rest of the clubs in DC are primarily your Top 40 and Rap clubs.
There are a TON of small lounges and bars however, some great, some ty, with everything from micro-house to salsa depending on when/where you go. You'll find most of these places in the Dupont Circle or Adams Morgan areas.
So, in summary: The scene could be worse, but it aint so great either. There is usually something halfway decent to do, but most of the time I find the crowd/venue to be lacking or just plain ty. |

hahaah couldn't agree with you more about this! didn't want to be racist at all, but unfortunately it's true.
But yeah once you meet some TAs down here, we stick together and have a great time, despite the other nitwits around.
And yeah beema pretty much hit it on the nail about all the clubs and the scene. i've always had a good time when i've gone out, so don't get discouraged if you have a bad night, you can usually make up for a lousy night with a slammin' night later on. |

i don't think myself or any of my friends fall in ANY of those categories...

If you ask me, there is nothing wrong with the EDM club scene if youre over 21+.
If youre younger, you just gotta get used to going to smaller parties.
As far as regular TA parties, we've converted practically all DCTAs to InnerDC members. We have our own sick parties and we have connections all around DC so we're quickly becoming our own self sufficient cult, freemason, mob, gang, etc.
