Any DJ's out there that couldnt seem to get the crowd going at all? Like the dancefloor just cleared after a track or two. I mean...what do you do or say after an embarassing set?

i dropped a drink on some equipment at my residency. luckily it was after hours and i was able to clean it up, but that was pretty stupid.

True, but when you are getting paid to please that little group of people it can make a difference. ;)

The first little club that I played at and actually got paid was a place that played mostly hip hop with some top 40 and alittle cheesy trance thrown in, but I was told that I could play whatever I wanted to for the first 2 hours or so because there usually weren't too many people there and the people that were there didn't really care. Sooooo I was playing a bunch of trance. When people started rolling in, nobody would dare step foot on the dance floor.

Cue the hip hop, got people dancing...... play the wrong hip hop song..... cleared the floor. Repeat three times. I felt pretty embarassed each time but in the end I think it taught me alot about reading crowds. I live in the sticks so just being able to play to a crowd got me excited, hence me playing at a club that was mostly hip hop.

You have to take the good with the bad and learn from everything. Don't beat yourself up over it and move on. Its just music, have fun.

so sure that EVERY DJ whether big time, or little time, has at one point or another, has been completely red-faced from doing SOMETHING retarded behind the decks....

For me ??? It was taking the needle off the wrong record in the middle of my trainwrecked set (due to nervousness OF COURSE) .... horrible, when i picked up the wrong needle and realized... I actually stood there for an extra second, and laughed to myself... thinking "NO, I did NOT just do that.... Perfect..." lol lol .. but i look back, and it's just another learning experience is all .... keep moving...

thankfully.. nothing horrible has happened that i couldn't easily recover from, (like hitting cue.. then fast forwarding like it never happened :p ) but like you guys say.. Something is going to happen :D

Well I'm all too excited as dumb as that might sound. I'm going to a shop in town to look at some tables and ask a lot of questions. I'll probably end up getting a fairly cheap belt driven set just so I can get the very basics down and have a lil fun and make sure I can really get into this.

this past Friday I opened for two pretty well known DJs in NYC and after teasing a song in, I went to re-cue the record and completely forgot that the fader knob was still on...it made this very loud awful scracthing sound and a lot fo people looked up to see what my problem was. I kind of just shrugged it off. There are worse things that could happen. Funny though.
