Question here...helping my grandmother clean up some stuff in her basement. Came across an unopened bottle of 1977 Canadian Club Whiskey. The bottle on it says aged 6 years. So would this be any good? or is it too old??

any of my lush friends help please!

PEACE
UWM
Open it up and try it out.

Whiskey, simply put, is aged grain alcohol. Fermented from malt or grain, distilled and aged in wooden barrels. Whiskey starts out as clear, and gets its colour from aging in wood. Sometimes, the spirit is filtered, or other ingredients such as neutral spirit added. A straight whiskey has nothing else added to it.

glass absorbs alcohol, so most likely this aging process is a little effected. there are things you can add to it to bring back its original taste though

yeah it should still be good. As long as it's not corked (which allows the bottle to breathe and let air in) it should be fine.

My folks bought a case of Ameretto when they lived in Italy in the late 70's. They finally opened the last bottle this year. It tastes great and there's nothing wrong with it.

it's still good. once whiskey is bottled, it's character does not change.

however for your sake i hope it was in cool dark area, other wise the light and heat may have messed it up.

if its corked make sure the cork hasnt cracked or dried up. If its a sealed cap, its probably fine. The only reason aging happens in casks is the wood absorbs rough alcohols and the alcohol leeches color out of the wood.

so less alcohol but more smoothness in older ones, a bottle however stops it...so yeah, go for it. just watch out for corks
