Can we have two smaller simaltaneously run competitions?
I think it'd be better to run two smaller competitions, say like 15 people in each with 3-5 judges for each, rather than one huge one with 30 peoeple and 5 judges.
One can be run the old way, with any PC program (no cdjs, no vinyl) LIVE, and this competition mixed NON-LIVE.
I think there's an artistry to being able to do stuff live, and if you do mess up and don't have time to redo the whole set, how well can you pass it off? Perhaps less marks can be devoted to beatmatching and harmonics and more to tracklisting, flow and other qualities that give a live set it's extra oomph compared to a flawlessly mixed edited CD. Whereas the NON-LIVE competition can focus more closely on beat matching, harmonics and creativity (which shouldn't be labelled here, and should be open to judges interpretations to PREVENT people from using ideas or thinking they HAVE to use the suggestions or ONLY the suggestions made.. ie dropping acapellas or bootlegging).
A lot of the times in previous competitions, if I wanted to bootleg or drop stuff or mess with tracks, I'd do it pre-set or during a live set. Also, I wouldn't have to worry about being perfect in a LIVE set competition and focus more on having fun rather than fretting over perfection just to be able to compete on that scoring area with other mixers in this competition.

That was an idea, but just to try it out, this is a PILOT edition. Dipping the toes in the water.
I don't think though that it is a bad idea. I have the FTP capablities and Sphere will have too, but don't you think 2 running competitions may be too much at one time. Some people from the LIVE comp are very interested in the NON-LIVE.
Sphere and I thought about alternating them. 1 on - 1 off.
And it won't just be about Beatmatching and melodics too, there are so many effects and reworkings a NON LIVE DJ can produce as opposed to the LIVE dj who is limited to the track on MP3, which is stated in Sphere's rules NOT to be edited.
Is there an issue here of Time? Entrants? I'm sure there will be some who want to take on loads of people, some will want a selective few. 1 Month Signing up, 1 month mixing and 1 month scoring - Is that too long?
Some good point Commisad |

you say there are problems with having two competitions? i say there should be sufficient people for both, without having people in both. I'm sure you can easily get 15 non live and 15 live entrants. sphere can run his and you yours. i missed out on the last competition because was too busy to read every thread and every forum to notice this up, so waited several months, and if you do a non-live, i admit there are tonnes of merits and great points about a non-live, i'm just not interested at this particular moment in time. doing a lot of guest mixes and such right now and radio show mixes, etc., so really used to doing live mixing right now. perhaps will go non-live for future.. unless no live is offered this go around.. don't really want to wait ANOTHER 3 months+ for the next compo.
ce la vie. |

Actualy, I'm thinking of starting something new with any medium acceptable but LIVE....like "TA Ladder Ranking System" which was preaty nice.
There's no max number of entrants. Any entrant can challenge another entrant. They'll upload mixes and someone judge them. The winner gets 1 point. At first all entrants have 0 points. Mixes must contain 5-6 tracks. |
