If you have bar experience you should find a job in a club over the summer quite easily. If not then try chippys e.t.c. Consider not telling them that you'll be leaving so soon.
You might find it more difficult to get a flat for such a short amount of time though - most contracts go for 12 months. Watch the local papers e.t.c. YOu might find a student flat or something that is looking for someone to fill a room just for the summer.
Try www.easyroomate.com
Godskitchen is in Birmingham, btw incase you didnt know;) |

Probably by contacting the many student housing companies. |

I'll (ab)use this thread to ask a question of my own:
How would one go about when looking for a job for a longer time (i.e., a couple of years)? What are the chances of a foreigner getting a (higher-level) job (in the IT business)? What kind of permits do you need?
Sorry for the load of questions, any help is truly appreciated. |

Hi basd
ok Its VERY COMPETITIVE to get into IT, the more spread out your knowledge and experience like for example W2K/XP, Exchange Server, SQL and UNIX the better chances you have landing an interview :)
Theres plenty of IT work, its just so competitive!
spent a month trying to get technical work, I have 3 years experience in desktop support/technician, basically too many applicants went for it :(
had to resort to alternate employment for now

Thanks, I'll check those out later on.. What's the deal on work permits? |

| Work permits? Well, it shouldn't be much of a problem since we're all in the EU and we have free movement of workers within the EU. I don't think that you will have to provide anything more than anybody else taking a similar job. Once you have the job then a right to residency while employed would also be a formality I think. |

That's the info I was looking for :) Was thinking about this myself, but I wasn't too sure about it..
Only thing is I keep hearing it is pretty hard to get a decent (!) job when you're from abroad.. something with needing British references. |
