Nice! Is that your profession? or a hobby? ahaah I like the Kennedy quote by the way :)
Tubular, those pics remind me of my childhood home. Was that a developing tornado? What could you feel as you were taking that picture of the clouds over the barn?
:nervous:
I love being smack dab in the middle of tornado alley. I've witnessed a developing funnel cloud. Storms only remind me of the unlimited power of nature and I just want to give myself up to it. I think I've said too many times in here that I love storms. It's almost spiritual. I've always wanted to witness a hurricane, too. :eyespop: |

funny you should ask. the place where that funnel cloud was at was in Bedford, IA . we were in a parking lot of a mom & pop grocery store and saw that. then almost the whole town fled to the grocery store for cover. at that point, my fellow classmates wanted to high-tail out of there. so we hopped in the cars and took off eastward, to stay ahead of the storm. well, about 2 minutes down the road, on the radio we heard that there was a brief touchdown in Bedford, IA. whether or not it was the same funnel cloud or not, i don't know. but we were so damn close. here's a video of us leaving the area [AVI format] - you can tell the winds were pretty damn strong . heh. .leaving Bedford, IA
I've been through a tropical storm too - TS Bonnie last summer. ironically enough it was when i was at Field Training for AFROTC. so i was on Tyndall AFB when it came across. they evacuated the whole base except us cadets [go figure right?]. we had to stay indoors almost all day long, and did PT [physical training] all day. so i really didn't get to "batten down the hatches" on that one - but still cool to have a few quick glances of the storm. One of my relatives used to live in Homestead, FL and survived Hurricane Andrew [now those pictures were amazing]. after that happened she moved up to Chicago. heh |

These are from a while back, but are the best I've taken. Every summer in MN there are usually fairly big thunderstorms just before sunset, which sometimes can lead to pretty magnificent views. Last night we had one almost as beautiful, but alas, no pictures.

Nice video! What an odd, wicked looking cloud. Could you imagine standing right in the middle, under that? :nervous: You should come to Missouri, or of course, Kansas. It's such a shame. Our storm season is already over and it was pretty uneventful. Bedford must be very rural, everyone running to that little store for shelter. :D
BTG, Nou lives in Seattle I believe? |
