Hello,
I need to look into getting a laptop for my new job.
Anyone know where to get a good deal on one with at least the following requirements:
Pentium III
1.0 G or higher
256 SDRAM
20 G HD
DVD drive
Windows 2000 or better..
14.1 XGA
used/refurbished is more of an option as new these would be over $1000 I am guessing......
any feedback would be appreciated....
Thanks everyone!!!
Sean:) |

I suggest an IBM Thinkpad (refurbished).
I picked one up with similar specs and it is a TANK. |

| Those are pretty cheap requirements, just go to any comp store in chinatown. |

For an off lease/refurb Thinkpad: anywhere from $500 to about a grand (taxes inc)
Check it:

| I got mine from MDG and they usually have decent prices. Also bestbuy. |

| I have a Dell Notebook, and I'm really happy with it. My boss bought it for me, so I'm not sure of the price, but they usually have decent sales on every once and a while. ;) |

Hey Sean, this might be for you:

I was recently given a laptop as part of a severance package. It's quite
a sweet laptop, a 'desktop replacement' IBM Thinkpad T40, and it works
quite well... but it's not a Mac and I already have a Windows desktop,
so I'd like to sell it.
My dad has already said he'll give me $1k for it, but no more. :) I'm
asking for $1200 firm -- if nobody expresses interest at that price by
end of next weekend it goes to my dad.
Specifics: (Googling on the model number may give more)
IBM Thinkpad T40 model 2373-92U, manufactured 08/2003
Pentium M 1.6Ghz
512Mb DDR SDRAM
400Mhz FSB
14.1" TFT Active Matrix screen, 1400x1050 max resolution
80Gb IDE drive
CD-RW/DVD drive (removable)
1000BaseT Ethernet
Integrated modem, 802.11a, 802.11b and Bluetooth
32Mb video RAM
Audio in/out
PCMCIA slot
VGA and SVideo jacks, 2048 x 1536 max external resolution
2 x USB and parallel port
Long life battery - advertised at 7.5hrs, I've used it for 5+ hours
Size: 12.25" x 10.91" x 1.22"
Weight: 4.85lbs
Windows XP Professional key (on the unit), but no original media
Includes AC adapter and original telephone cable
Manufacturer's warranty is 3 years, and the unit was purchased in late
2003 by my previous employer. You may or may not be able to get warranty
service given the chain of ownership.
I don't have any recovery or other CDs - since this was an enterprise
install it's entirely possible that either there were no CDs (only
software on the hdd), or that the IT department of the company I was
working for snagged the CDs when they installed the standard corporate
image. All drivers are available on the IBM and/or Lenovo websites. If
you're going to run Windows I can install XP and applicable/useful
driver and utility software for you.
So... let me know if you're interested.
Thanks,
Bryan
