So it's mid June and I STILL don't have a summer job. Silly, I know.
I'm an uni student. I'm also in the army reserve. For past 3 summers, I have had summer employment from the army because I'm a good kid who show up for virtually everything and and keep my nose clean. This summer, only last week I am told that I don't get anything. Well, so much for dedication and loyalty. Okay, so I did get offered a 10 day contract in mid July, but considering I need to make about 4000 this summer, I am very. Not. HAPPY.
Why did I hold out for an army job? Well, at my current pay rate, I get about 110 bucks per day, 7 days a week, plus allowances. Most summer contracts have you work only about 5 days a week, albeit some workdays are really messed up. So say about 700 per week and since most contracts are about 10 weeks like, that's 7000 bucks. Add another 1000 for allowances, you can see why I am VERY. NOT. HAPPY.
Now there are some jobs I can apply for in Kitchener Waterloo area, but I need references. I have one, a friend of mine who also happened to be my immediate boss, but I need another one. Having solely worked for the army, I don't have another source of reference. I suppose I can my former boss when I worked for KFC like 4 yrs ago, but I haven't talked to her since and I feel kinda conscious doing that. Most jobs want two references, leaving me in a kind of limbo.
Combined with very humid weather we've been having lately, I feel like destroying the world.

I actually woke up punching my pillow at one point... not a good night... stressed out about my crappy job.
Can't wait until tomorrow, tho! Afterlife it is! Yep! Gonna have some fun and recharge for the next 6 afternoon shifts starting on friday. |

that really sucks.. luckily for me i could kinda read the writing on the wall and knew my latest contract was up.. the contract ending early seems to have totally worked out in my favour.. lucky i know..
my suggestion would be find some old high school teachers or someone who you've done volunteer work with as a 2nd reference. references are more personality check (& quick "truth" check) than experience. |

My car is disintegrating underneath me.
The air struts (air bags) in the rear suspension are blown.
The compressor motor to fill up those air bags has burnt out.
My power antenna is stuck half-way up and is now dangling from a small piece of itself thanks to some face in Burlington yesterday who decided it'd be funny to knock it around while I was in Subway.
My transmission is dying. It slips constantly and shifts extremely violently.
If I put the air conditioning on for more than 10 minutes, the compressor puts so much strain on the engine that it will start to overheat and go into the red-zone. The coolant will boil.
I have to turn the AC off when I go up hills of any kind.
The front shocks are now shot.
My interior trim panels have mostly all fallen off.
My front door speakers are blown and I just don't have the time or energy after work to change them.
this thing. I can't really complain though, I've driven it through hell and back for just over 2 years, and for $1000 from some old guy who had no idea what it was worth, what more could I ask for?
On the upside, I went test-driving today. The Mazda3 Sport GT (sans leather though) is very, very promising... |
