There's already a big thread about F1. |
Yet still the race was more exciting than most of last seasons :stongue:
I agree that nobody is to blame for the situation other than Michelin. But regardless of this, the teams and the FIA had 24 hours to come up with a solution that would have
a) Given the fans (especially the spectators) a spectacle
b) Limited the damage to F1 in the states.
The fact that up until 10 minutes before the race not even the drivers knew if they'd be racing is a complete farce for which I can only blame Ferrari.
Fair enough most of the ideas bouncing around were nonsense, but all of the teams were willing to race with a chicane bar Ferrari. The Michelin runners were willing to hand over all points to the 3 remaining teams just so they could get out there and race for the fans but Ferrari and the FIA wouldn't allow it.
I'm guessing here but I feel the only reason the FIA voted against was because of Ferrari. They basically had no right to enforce the situation on Ferrari but if they'd stuck to the spirit of the sport it would've been a different matter. Instead they realised the amount of airtime their happy sponsors would recieve and told the other teams to sod off.
Yes they were perfectly within their rights to do so, and why should they suffer because the other teams didn't bring suitable equipment? Because of F1 that's why.
I have nothing but loathing for Ferrari (and the FIA). Lets hope the manufacturers have now seen the light and decide to go ahead with their own racing series. I reckon they should get Bernie on board too though :D |

the problem is that if everyone was out there on the track, it would have been easy for a Ferrari driver to trip over somebody and not finish the race.
besides, what would the podium be like? let's say Kimi won, Alonso got second and Fisichella third. they would not have scored any points, so should they be part of the podium ceremony? or would we have the same podium as we did now (with Michael finishing 5th., Barrichello 7th. and Monteiro 15th. for example)?
it would all just be even more awkward
the FIA were completely right, in my opinion. a 6-car race was the best way to go |

yep, couldnt see any other solution either
no reason for ferrari to give into setting up that chicane
throughout the year they've also been disadvantaged occasionally with their bridgestone tires
nothing as serious as this michelin stunt off course :D
its simply a big part of the game
In 2008 there will be only one tires constructor allowed in F1,
i wonder who'll get it, i've heard Bridgestone are certainly determined to stay in F1... |

I think that's exactly what was being suggested (with the podium thing). You're right about Ferrari tripping up etc.. but for the sake of the sport I think they should've let this one go.
It's called sportsmanship for a reason :)
Just pisses me off that it always seems to be Ferrari saying no whenever discussions take place. If I remember correctly (and I probably don't) there has to be over 8 cars starting a GP. The only reason the race took place in the first place was because the other teams formed on the grid for the formation lap. I'm pretty sure they could have just pulled out altogether to deny Ferrari the points. |

I don't see why Ferrari should compromise their chances to win because Michelin ed up. Their cars and set-ups were set for that track without the chicane so why should they have to re-do everything because their rivals can't go? I don't think this qualifies as not having sportsmanship. Having Ferrari give into having a chicane put in is like having the other teams slow down in turn 13.
I'm a Ferrari fan so it might seem biased, but Spad sounds like a Ferrari hater (perhaps McLaren fan, no?) so it's just a difference of opinion. Hey other teams, bring those extra crap tires for back-up just in case! |

| happens, aswell as in the F1 as in other sports. There is no reason to be bloody anti-F1 just, because of one cock-up. Next year F1 should come back and everything should be fine. |

F1 is is what motor racing is all about, no matter what you say
but heh , they're the guys that prefer their "american football" over plain football :D :haha:
Ronaldinho > all american football players :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: |

i despise nascar. why the hell would anyone want to see a Ford Taurus race around a track? i think its hilarious when they knock each other out of the race and then they start trying to fight or talk after the race.
i feel bad for F1 because of this. they are getting a lot of PR in the media because of this and what the one guy said about Dannika Patrick. |
