D-Res, my mom and dad met when they were twelve and the beginning of their story sounds a bit like yours. My dad went out with a lot of girls but my mom was always the one he wanted.
They loved each other so much.
I, on the other hand, fell in love with this guy when I was really really young and just worshipped the ground he walked on for I think 3 years, maybe longer, and I imagined that he and I would be like my parents were--an always and forever thing--and it didn't work out.
So whichever way your story goes, I'm happy for you, now and hope, for your sake it goes the way you want it to go.

lol... as i've said, i know the difference as i've been infatuated before. this is something more but dont worry.. i wont say that this is the one. its hard to say something like that, but its something more than just infatuation
