This is for real Anita.

The soundsystem has been repo'd by someone who has hired lawyers and pursued legal action in order to get the money that they feel is owed to them. Thats at least the word on the street. There is a court hearing today, and i'll have answers on the clubs immediate future tonight at some point.

*EDIT* this is just something i've heard from a reliable source, and i am only posting in hopes that other rumours arent started. i have not been told any of this by boa management.

Id imagine that they are a tad bit more concerned with getting the system back at this moment. I cant see them ditching out court to go post on a message board what the dilly is!

I hope they get this worked out, as that club was so mint with that sound. By far the most superiour sound in the city. It will be like every other club with run of the mill speakers.

in my opinion Boa was doomed from the start. The fact that they didn't serve alchohol was one indication of that. If we were in Montreal, where after hours aren't allowed to serve any alchohol whatsoever, that would be a different story....But our club industry is one that's dominated by clubs that serve alchohol. A lot of people said that it didn't matter, and that it made no difference in attendance, but the club was limiting the demograph that they were catering to.

They only catered to the "let's get high and drink water all night" or "let's stay sober and drink water all night" crowds, while forgetting about the "I don't wanna drink any ing water or stay sober, and I wanna get drunk off my ass" crowd (ie me).

Now they have no sound system, which was their main selling point, and the main reason for going, because they didn't contribute anything to the decor, which leaves it looking sub par.....And all of that is on top of the fact that they have a ridiculous location for the DJ booth, which was primarily to keep the records from skipping from a sound system that they no longer have. I heard that they went to a lot of trouble for that DJ booth too. Going as far as drilling a gigantic hole right through the foundation to make it separate from the rest of the building.

It's too bad too. I hate to see that our electronic music scene can't flourish.

I think Boa caterS to the "lets nap, get hosed at home (save money) and go to Boa to hear some good tunes crowd". Or at least that's my crowd.

I hate all these "I told you so"s. Getting really lame.

EDIT: I should say caters, because we still don't know.

And the saving money by drinking at home is not that I'm cheap because spending the money at the cover price was what I was saving for.

dude, you're stupid. Decor is unecessary for afterhours, as it's suppost to be dark. They moved the DJ booth. Afterhours are not suppost to serve alcohol, although boa was starting to do this with a little more frequency as well. Attendance and support didn't ever seem to be a problem [at least for the fair number of times I was there], so this to me only strikes me as a management problem, and not the fact the club isn't making enough money to support itself. Boa is a lot closer to the comfort zone than republik.

And as for the rumours of all the people throwing events there and DJs calling up other clubs for alternative plans, wouldn't it be a smart move for those without full knowledge to make alternate plans and at least try to cover whatever losses this may cause them in the short term? This is not the complete 'jumping of ship' everyone on tribe seems to think it is.

Sorry, I'm just a little tired of all the bull 'boa was doomed talk' and wanted to bring a little common sense in here. Jeff, I am really curious to know the details of what's going on tho, so please, whenever you find out something I can actually believe, let me or all of these people know.
