Hey,
For those of you that have been to Canada, can you please share some information with me about the environment, the people, the lifestyle, economy, What area's are nice that you would recommend for family living etc.
Me and my hubby have been talking about moving somewhere eventually, not anytime soon but in the future long term so I would like to get more info. I would like to get opinions for actual people instead of opinions posted on websites that may or may not be true.
Thanks

| I've only been to Montreal and its a big city, my ex girlfriend actually just moved there from NYC... its a nice city, i found the people to be rather nice.. most spoke french though but its not like i had a hard time getting around.. the atms there spit out american cash if you use your debit card, which threw me off lol.. lifestyle seems nice as well... downtown you got the clubs.. i went to a rave in a warehouse when i was there and also i went to club dome which was cool and had an awesome time, i got made fun of bc i was american and couldnt "handle" their canadian beer as many of the local kids out drank me lol but it was all in good fun, no harm done .. nightlife is deff kickin up there too... a lot of bars and interesting people to meet. You'll also find a lot of shops you would see in st marks here in ny which is cool.. and for some reason there seemed to be people selling weed on like every street corner... and theres a lot of E up there if you like that sort of thing ;).... to answer your question about raising children, id say montreal or a suburb of montreal would be kinda cool... and you cant beat their healthcare system lol.... thats all i can think of atm.. so take what u can from it.. personally i would never live in canada if i was gonna move out of the united states id head to europe.. but im pretty sure ill be staying either in NYC or California... hope i could be of some help.. |

TORONTO Z!
TO-RON-TO uber fun - but if your serious, i'd venture across to Vancouver to make things really happen.
Toronto is nice though, its closer, and you have Niagra which isn't too far from TO. Niagra you can get your gamble on, Toronto the food is good, the partying is great, the people are nice. Overall my canadian choice. I use to go to school in Rochester and we'd have to drive literally around the lake. I find out there is a ferry that takes you across now. That like cuts the trip from 3-4hours into 1.5hours - made me cry lols |

i loved toronto... not only bc it was friendly, clean and clubbing was insane but i thought it had a pretty good sense of acceptance for all walks of life and had many different areas suitable for all different types of people to live in.
z, y not post in the TOTA forums? i'm sure they could tell you nice neighborhoods to check out for family-raising, good pricing for properties and such :) |

| I posted in the canada forums as well but I wanted to get some comparisons to NY. Its not anytime soon, maybe 5 years from now or so but for a international move its wise to start planning years ahead. I dont want to wing it and have things fall apart at the last minute. The reason I suggested Canada is because its not in the US but its close enough to the US where I could still drive down and see my family. We are exploring other options as well, I think as we get older we are just getting sick of the type of that goes on here and the way this country treats "its people". The main point is to raise our child in a good environment. the only thing that turn me off about Canada is how cold it is. |

| Can I ask why Canada???? Why not somewhere warm like the carribean. That would be where I would move to. Ive been to Canada once and the people there were very nice. What part of Canada? Do people there rave or party like we do I dont know. And what about the DJ"S do they ever go there???? I am probably not helping much. Sorry. LOL. So many questions? Whatever you decide I'm sure it will be the best decision for you and your family. |

| TO is nicer and cleaner than montreal. They speak engrish and french there. TO has a cheap chinatown for good food and nice expensive shops, better nite life also. El casino del montreal is nice for a small casino when i went there eons ago. go download google earth @ earth.google.com and you will see it clearly |

I have been to Montreal and Niagara. Both were really nice, I would move there. As for raising children, if you do decide to go to Montreal, remember that your child would have to learn French, I think. It is bilingual education up there and I *think* there is a law that says that children have to learn French. Half the classes (e.g. History) are taught in French, and the other in English. So if you were going to move up there, I would do it while the child is young (before adolescence) so the langugae can be learned better. Just remember that about Montreal, that you do need to know some French.
Niagara was really nice, cold but nice. |
