Oakenfold Like It's 1999, Must Read This

OK now I admit that I am a dance music snob. I'm a 'proghead' John Digweed addict who is obsessed with that driving ('boring' according to many ta's) progressive house sound so with that in mind...

I went to see Paul Oakenfold last night at Crobar NYC. I didn't really know what to expect... I hadn't heard a decent trance live set in 3 years, though I really liked the 1st half of that recent Orange Hours set but last time I saw him live- early 2004- he was terrible. Take the mixed expectations and throw in the fact that I had partied super hard the past 3 nights in a row, including a 5 hour hammering by Picotto friday night. I was exhasted and there was no where to sit down AND I was dead sober; it have taken a miracle to get me into anything last night... OR OAKENFOLD LIKE IT'S 1999!!!!!:eyespop: :eyespop: :eyespop:

Honestly it was ing amazing. He dropped so, so many unbelievable tracks- trance mind you-... it was bomb after bomb, everything was appropriate, hard when it needed to be, soft when it needed to be and here's the best part- the mixing was nearly flawless!! I know it's hard to believe. Crowd was sick too.

Honestly if the retirement rumors are true you all must see him before the end of the year, last night was honestly was on par with almost any of those '99 essential mix world tour shows.

haha sorry i've never been much of a trainspotter... lots of '99 classics though- a couple of tunes off tranceport- and lots and lots of amazing new stuff that i've never heard before.

Well, I'm glad that you got to have a good time, but I saw Oakenfold at God's Kitchen in May and he was absolutely wretched. Mixing was terrible, track selection was mediocre, and his general attitude towards his work was pathetic. He spent most of the evening leaning against the booth, waiting for something to happen. With 90 seconds left in the current track, he'd slap down a new record, half-assedly cue it up, and then trainwreck his way through a quick cross-fader slam to the new tune.

Oakenfold in 2005 is either terrible or terribly inconsistent, depending upon whose reports you believe.

wow that really sucks man... last night oakenfold never left the booth and would not stop jumping around like a little monkey on acid

well if he's playing alot of the stuff from 99 thats proof that he isnt that groundbreaking anymore

He blew then too. If it was Oakenfold like 1988 it might be something.
