IMO Trance died after 2002, now adays trance ain't trance ... A&B is the only ones doing it proppa. |
Blank & Jones still gives it a good go (as well as A&B).
However, I agree. No trance has been as good as the 1998 to 2000 era. |

Set on www.2hp.ca right now is "the good old days" (Paul Oakenfold - Live @ Home, Sydney, AU - January 1999). |
those 12 essential mixes are the best! the one from July (oakenfold - live at home at space in ibiza) was my introduction to the music and still my favourite..as well as the song "open your eyes" by nalin and kane. when i do the all-nighter studying binges i just go thru them one by one..21.7 hours! |

Old school Oakey is handsdown as good as it gets.
End of discussion.
Frank(Cuzo) and I have classes on old school oakenfold 2 times a month on sunday evenings if anyone is interested. |

Eh. Each 'era' has its own flavour. It's just nowadays, there's more flavour than previously before. |

I do.
Also, Blank & Jones was supposed to be the last bastion of real trance - they let me down at Ultraspin 9. |

I don't know if I would agree that trance music is not as good these days. I think the tunes put out today are just more refined than back then. There are still many great producers and DJ's staying faithful to the trance sound:
Above and Beyond as mentioned (awesome producers and DJ's with Anjunabeats turning out tons of great trance tracks)
Menno De Jong (again great productions and mixes)
Ronski Speed
Perry O'Neil (more great tunes)
and yea Armin, ASOT may be commercial but he never dissapoints live. |

I wish I could go to some sort of an event where they blasted the old stuff, all the way from say 98 till about 2002. Those were the days! :)
I think 2000 was THE year for me, too many good memories! :D |
Those were the years for me too... It was just so different. The music, the people and vibe was way more positive. Hearing songs like: Open Your Eyes, Someone to Hold, Home(anything from Space Brothers and Chakra), Not Over Yet and many, many, many more.
I got hoooked on Trance when someone gave me Oakenfolds Cream Resident and Tranceport and it changed my musical tasted for life.
I remember seeing Oakie with at the better living centre, those parties are gone. Oakie is the KING hands down...
Those were the days. |

| My best way not to get into a complicated argument over this topic, is just to say that if you make your opinion of 'Trance dieing' based on the people who were amazing 5 years but you feel are crap now, then yes Trance is dieing. If you really like the music, you will put your bias behind you and search for good Trance music because it is out there (some what the same as jdjd's post) because you will most likely find it. |

Thank you Ferry!
But yes...I do miss the old days. That's why I keep all my old CDs so I can go back and enjoy them :) But I would do anything for a good old-school trance party. |

I know what everyone means. The good old days when trance was really emotional, and put you in that altered state ... you all know what I mean :D .
There is a lot of new talent from countries like Japan and Germany who are leading a rejuvination of the pure type of trance. |
