Well anybody who knows what Im talking about can answer. Im not looking to get an answer from someone who doesn't know lol. j/k I don't blame you for not knowing. I barely understand this part myself. But eventually you'll be able to work out chord progressions using a mathematical system represented by certain letter groups like the ones I mentioned in my 1st post.
It's to do with music theory. I think they are chords of some sort but I don't exactly understand which..or what the difference is between a capital and a lower case.
I know that an N6 is a Neapolitan 6th. But what would you call a V ?
hey..have a look here.

it's really interesting and essential stuff. goto - > www.musictheory.net and click on lessons.. go through them all. you'll learn some amazing things about how music works. |

Dude, V is a fifth. Or fifth chord progression.. :( |
|
|
alanzo |
It refers to the five chord in any given scale. (the Roman numeral for five is V) |
|
|
Akridrot |
Yeah, that's what I meant to say. I-Vii are the degrees of the scales.
A v chord is a chord with the 5th degree as it's root. |

I know that but I still don't understand.
I know that the roman numeral for five is V. but what does a lower case v represent in music? |

uhh.. there isn't much else to understand :p
side note: A capital 'V' means the chord is a Major chord... a lower-case 'v' means the chord is a Minor chord |

WHAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!????????
There is nothing more to understand!!
Ok, I'll break it down for you.
You have: C D E F G A B
That's the C major scale. We name each note from C - B like so
FIRST: Tonic
SECOND: Supertonic
THIRD: Mediant
FOURTH: Subdominant
FIFTH: Dominant
Sixth: Submediant
SEVENTH: Leading Note
Eight: Octave, or tonic all over a gain.
Or, we could use Roman Numerals, I-Vii. And that's it. Any questions? |

how come when you click on the chord calculator..if you're on major you can choose only V..and when you choose minor you can choose a small v but you can also choose the capital V when in minor?
oh and there's so much more to understand :/ i dont really get it. |

Once again, alanzo reminds me of something I missed out. I need to brush up on my theory! :stongue: |
