not for nothing but damn that sucks bout not letting you in with canadian IDs. and the whole deal about cutting tracks short at 2am, PVD encored with Arolla - Dreaming (percussion remix) and right at the vocal break down, they made him turn it off. I'm sorry but any venue, city, or establishment that makes an artist (world reknown) cut their set with less than 10mins left of the track, should be a valid excuse NOT TO PLAY there anymore, yet for some reason they still keep going to Boston to play?
It's like the NYPD shutting down Pink Floyd or U2 @ madison square garden cuz one of them was smoking on stage? I'm sorry but when laws apply and are not flexible, that usually turns people off to the city.
Why do I want to go to boston to hear a DJ play a SHORT SET, have to leave the club by 2am and potentially have the encore track cut off - not to mention the ENCORE coming on around 2am? Just not my cup of tea, and I'm sure alot of Boston Fans will argue the fact that it's what they get and they have to deal with they have. I dunno, for me, it doesn't do justice. Not $30+ to leave a place at 2am, just can't do it. |
Do you really think the Boston legislators really give a damn about getting rid of the 2am to allow a few more hours of clubbing and bars?
The only people who do care are clubbers...The City of Boston has no reason to really give it up and its been on the books for so long so why change it now.People still have fun in boston and boston is a major tourist venue as it is ie. Freedom Trail,All the Revolutionary War historical sites, faneuil hall....clubs staying open longer so people can have a lil more fun is not even close to a priority for the state goverment..They have more reason to keep the law than to change it... |

Believe me they'd rather have people attracted to the city for other reasons not to go clubbing. The owners of most of the clubs in boston including avalon are well connected with the state and have a good relationship and therefore wouldnt push to get the laws changed themselves. They make good business as it is with the 2am law so if its not broken dont fix it.. |

but it's alright when you fill the streets and riot flipping cars and stuff. i don't have anything against boston, i have alot of good friends that are there at school and some who live there. I just don't understand how ass backwards things are there. I mean granted it's a college oriented city with some really ivy-league institutions there. Fine, but the attitude that reaks from the place let alone the city laws that ornate the city befuddles me. I've been to albany and new orleans and i've seen many "college oriented" party cities, but none like Boston. Wearing a Yankee hat means everyone in their mothe has to step up to me versus a Boston hat in nyc warrants nothing but a look and even a conforming unity of Boston Representation here in nyc has become acceptable. I don't understand how city regulations dictate artist, business owners, and especially the patrons there of. I'm not avocating for a law-less/rule-less city, but some leniency perhaps would losen the straps around bostonians nuts so that they can understand what it's like to have fun in a civilized way. Riots? Fights? Attitudes? I'm sorry to say this but it seems like Boston is a town full of rich kids who's parents restricted them in their childhood and now they are free to rebel at the same time are spoiled with money. Again, I'm not trying to butt heads with you or anyone from boston, I have plenty of friends here, I just don't understand the lifestyle there.
Maybe NYC has molded me to adapting to a large city that's capable of external views, free of judgements based only on experiences. I don't know, maybe my view is distorted. We are all different. |

It's not just clubs, it's all nightlife. Bars in Boston close too early as well.
And yes, they should care. They are taking away money that could go into Boston's economy. Why not have more attractions to market to tourists. I mean, Boston is known for some decent beers coming out of it (Sam Adams, Harpoon, etc.). Why cut into the business that you're well known for?
New York is known as a city that has a great nightlife, which is why tourists come here to party until dawn. Then they catch a few hours rest and go see the Statue of Liberty, Empire State building, NYSE, etc. the next afternoon. Adding to the options that visitors have can only increase the flow of cash into the city and leads to return trips and/or extended stays.
And what would be the cost to them to keep things open later? |

| I'll tell u this- I had always intended to go check out Avalon in Boston UNTIL I found out about its early closing time. Forget it- no plans to hit Boston ever. Life shuts down too early for my likings there. |

Where is there excellent points in someone's statements on a tranceaddict forum bashing boston in a thread reviewing an above and beyond night....just pointing out what is going on...my comment about the sox was just as valid as his point in this thread lol.
The Bottom line (Seriously) is that Boston won't change and I don't think people from Nyc bashing Boston ever would make any difference to anyone here to actually make a change in the laws.If it bothers people from new york that much that there is a 2am curfew then don't bother coming to Boston its that simple.K thanx Bye |
