Depresion? WTF

Today was one of the worst days in my life all kinds of stupid and ed up stuff happened to me, some of it I don't think I will ever be able to tell anyone in my life time. Part of it is to do with girl problems, but that's just a small part of all the coming down on me.
I feel like , I can get cheered up for like a moment by some of the posts here and some other stuff that goes on around me, but I just can't snap out of it.
WTF is depression any way? WHy the hell can't I just go and snap out of it, it's been like this before, but each time this depression cycle comes around I feel worse and worse, and the regular and ussual stuff that I did to snap out of it, did not work this time around.
There is so much that's going on in my life right now, I can even hardly talk about it.
Why does like this happen to us humans?
Why can't we just go on with our lives full of happiness.
Most of the time I have this total 'I don't give a about anything', but I feel like I am just braking down as of late!
HELP? Somebody?
P.S. and no I am not on durgs! |

| That really sucks, it could be a chemical imbalance. But there are other things that cause depressions besides that. Depression can hit you at any time in your life, usually it occurs as you're experiencing a great deal of stress. Sorry, hope things get better for you :( |

I know exactly what you mean. I had exactly the same thing - you just feel like 90% of the time and you can only see the bad side of any situation you're in :( . I know this might sound kinda lame, My dad told me to get healthy sleeping habits and get some exercise - it actually worked!
I took my old man's advice and started going to sleep at 10:30, getting up at 8, jogging every morning and doing pushups, chinups and like that. It made me feel like i was on drugs man. I just became much more positive, I enjoyed just being alive, smelling the air. I took up Kung fu again (i had quit it earlier) and i forgot all about the depression.
This might sound crap but it worked for me and I recommend you try it before some doctor tells you to take drugs - that should be your last resort. Drugs are the most unnatural way to deal with any problem and they almost always have side effects.
Anyway, hope that helps.
Good luck tavarish :D |

Well I'm just reading a psych book now, and it talked a bit about how depressed people think. It said that people who are in depression always think "why does bad stuff ALWAYS happen to me?", and subconsciously your brain tries to come up with reasons for that question, like "because you're stupid" or "because you can't do anything right" or a whole bunch of crap like that, so in turn you feel like crap. so i the thing to do is ask yourself more positive questions like "what's the good thing i learned from this?" or "how i make it so that i get a better outcome next time?", and in this way, your brain will subconsciously answer those positive questions in a more positive way and you'll feel better about yourself.
i know how you're feeling. about 2 years ago I was always angry at the world, pissed that 'everything goes wrong in my life', yet i'm a perfectly healthy person, 2 arms, 2 legs, everything normal, but yet i was still always so depressed. its important to think about everything that you have, rather than all the stuff you don't have. there are handicapped people out there, paralyzed people, people with so many health problems, that love life and treasure every minute of it. i look at those people and think, wow, my problems are so miniscule compared to the problems they have to deal with. i really look up to people like that and i feel better about my own life.
so try the positive question thing, see how it goes. and hope you feel better soon! |

I hope you start feeling better mate. Depression really can ruin a persons life and change a person completly when it gets out of control. Three things I have to say
a) Keep away from drugs (I don't mean illegal, I mean altogether). It can be really easy to go see the doc and get him to put you on pills or whatever, but this is just a temporary solution and does nothing to address the underlying problems the person has. And it will just make it all the more difficult when you come off them after however many months and realise they've done nothing.
b) Talk to people, but not too much. I know they say it's good to have somebody to talk to and to share your problems with and that's true so confide in friends if possible. But at the same time don't fall into the trap where you think you can solve all your problems just by talking about them, because there comes a time where a person has to actually take some action.
c) Look forward. It doesn't have to been far into the future, just think about where you want to be in two months time, and what you want to have accomplished. They don't have to be major things...just little things like reducing your debts by a couple of hundred quid, or decorating your room, or saving up enough money to buy that nice mp3 player. Then make a positive effort to make these things happen. And when they happen think ahead to what you want to accomplish next, and maybe start looking further into the future.
Anyway, that sofa looks comfortable so I'll let you go now so I can have a sleep. |

Trancearmada! I know what you mean, totally.
I've had major depression many times in my life.
The thing about depression is that these moods "come and go". Nothing lasts forever, depression doesn't last forever, so it will go away soon. Maybe this thought will comfort you.
P.S.: Sovetuyu tebe poslushat' v mashine kogda budesh' kuda-to ehat' kakoi-nibud' albom Russkogo Razmera, esli u tebya est'. Kogda mne na dushe ploho - vsegda pomogaet. Osobenno takie pesni kak "Vesna", "Ves' etot mir", "vse vernetsya nazad", "uvidet' nebo", "mezhdu nebom i zemley". Esli hochesh' mogu tebe skinut' MP3. Uveren, chto pomozhet. |

| Look, you are not alone (what a choon btw). I've been thru depression, very difficult problem to deal with. I honestly have an anxiety problem that affects me (lolz, i think). Been on a anti-anxiety drug fo yrs. I have NO problem with it now and seeing your doctor would be my first piece of advice, the doc can tell you if it is a problem that can be cured or helped by prescription drugs or if it is just a stage. I thought it was a stage, several yrs ago but i saw my doctor who put me on a prescription drug. I take it every morning and i'm fine. The only reason why i shared this, is to say prescription drugs do work and you are not the only one with this problem called depression and there are many other treatments (non medical) that also work. Sometime changing your diet and habits can help too. They said on tv that 25 million americans have some form of depression. |
