Hello! I'm new to Tranceaddict as well as new to the music itself. I absolutely love this genre of music but have no idea where to start. I plan to hold a sixteenth birthday party and would like to know you suggestions for music, albums, etc. I'm not into the idea of playing "recent hip hop hits" so I want to make it a little different- with trance. Any suggestions?
Thanks! |

| Nobody here can teach you how to know what works on which crowd. |

To succeed in this forum and become a COR whore you must abide by this golden rule. Failure to heed this simplicity leads to eternal n00bdom and someone to laugh at |

All right. Thank you for your kindness. Really though, I found this site through the search button. A search for "trance music" or the like is too broad. I've heard CD samples that absolutely suck. That's why I figure I'd ask people who know what they are talking about.
I'm not trying to work a crowd, I'm just looking for something that doesn't sound straight from a dying cat. I'm also not looking to become a master- just looking for suggestions to what albums you like, have heard often, and such.
My apologies if I sound noobish, didn't mean to waste your time. |

| The trouble is, most people like to recommend whatever they like, whether it's suitable or not. Ultimately, you know your own friends and what they like, dislike and are impartial to. There's no use putting on a load of trance if the rest of the party hates it. Use your discretion, because it's far more reliable than a page of random tunes people have just ripped from whatever P2P program they use. |

| if your crowd is going to be younger and not as keen to dance music as you might hope, checking out dance/house mixes of recent pop/hip-hop tracks is never a bad idea. try to stick with stuff a bit more low-key then going for the trance stuff off the bat. |

| Thank you. That made sense since each track is different in many ways. I do appreciate your suggestions and I will check into it. |

Yeah, if you're working with a hip-hop/pop crowd, I'd download some ghetto-tek or funky house mixes.
Most everyone that's into mainstream rap or pop has always been fond of the catchy funky ghetto hooks in those genres.
Go to this page for a start:

The Beatfreakers rock! They are one of Chicago's best exports of the moment. And anybody that has caught them at WEMF know's what I'm talkin about, 2 x 2 turntable action at its best. Their mixes give ya the best of peak hour hard funky breakbeat, disco house and rippin techno. And the Slutty Disco Breaks set by The Phat Conductor on their page will get your party bumpin, too.
Here's The Phatt Conductor's page of a number of his mixes and released tracks, awesome eclectic breakbeats and funkiness!
