You're too modest...you're an old pro and you know it.
...with your massive triceps and calves...I haven't forgotten those pics! |

i agree with your view. my high school weight coach, who is also a preseason trainer with the dallas cowboys, always stressed doing exercises that involved the bigger muscle groups (bench, squats, deadlefts). then you would have four or five more exercises that involve the arms. a typical arm day might be bench press, tricep pulldowns, bicep curls, lat pulldowns, rows, and ab crunchs. for a noob in his weightroom, the first week was just always weightless for you. he'd take you thru the exercises and emphasize form more than anything.
all sets were in the "til failure" form, where you should aim to do 10 reps of the weight. getting to 10 should be difficult, and if you can do an extra 2, do it. it seems that by doing a lighter weight with more reps, you're only tiring your muscles out...not actually building them.
i lift weights four times a week:
monday - arms/back
tuesday - legs
wednesday - rest
thursday - arms/back
friday - legs
the one thing that has struck me as odd is that no one has really mentioned doing any cardio workout after lifting. i always run (distance), sprint (ladders), or do some sort of plyometrics after i lift. abs are just like any other muscle, and they should only be worked out three or four times a week. calves should be done with your leg workouts. and don't forget to eat after your workout to replenish yourself. |

Good call on the cardio Vyper; not only does it keep you lean but, a strong conditioned heart allows for more taxing and intense workouts.

some people don't like to train them on the same day because they are two very large muscle groups. some people like to train them together because they are opposites in that one you are pushing and one you are mostly pulling. it really comes down to try both and do what you like... |
