V-Station always seemed too generic and weak for me, but to each his own.

For me it's:
- z3ta+ (for belting out those sounds and basslines that cut right through the mix)
- Albino (for unique & interesting synths - especially arps)
- Absynth (for atmospheric/ambient effects)
- Emulator X :p (for the classic analog sound)
- ABL (because I *heart* acid!)

Logic 5.1 for PC

Plugins (since I only have Logic because of a generous friend, you could assume that all of these are freeware or built-in.)

ES2 - you can do something in every basic category with this one, and I've used it for sequences, kicks, hats, other percs, leads and pads. It bites for bass, though.

EXS24 - A must-use for hits, FX, and sometimes even classical-sounding pads.

rgc:audio sfz - TIMPANIIIIIIII :D :D :D I'm big into symphonic electronica, so this one is a given in every piece that needs that lovely thunderous timpani sound. (Which in my case, is pretty much everything!)

rgc:audio Triangle II - gives my basslines a bit of a dark edge.

rgc:audio Triangle I - sure, it's monophonic. But it beats the piss out of a lot of the polyphonic VSTis I have. :p

Synth1 VST - created this awesome saw-tri sound with this one. Me likey! :D

IK Mult./Sonik Reality Sonik Synth Free - good for pads. The built-in FX come in handy, too.

Superwave P8 (too bad this and Synth1 can't be used at the same time... it crashes the program)- good for leads and pads. With a little help from Logic's built-ins, I almost have a string sound sounding like the real acoustic deal.

Crystal - if I was ever to do an ambient track, I'd be on top of this bitch faster than a pack of hyenas on a fresh-killed carcass. Its atmospheric sounds and weird pad sounds are perfectly suited to the genre.

Ugo String Theory - Good for plucked strings. If I require such things as harp, guitar, dulcimer or something like that, I use this one.

Energy - sure, the GUI is nothing to write home about. And the functionality is limited. But for writing apocalyptic-sounding music, this blends into the mix perfectly. Get a choir, strings, a dark saw-tri or super-saw lead, some dark-ass bass, and two beats - one at 75 bpm and the other at 150 or something at the same ratio - then record some chunky guitars overtop and you have a masterpiece! :D
