iPod vs The Rest...

Can anyone help us out here... I'm thinking about getting an iPod... I've been looking at the one with 20GB. Apart from Apple's iPod... what other MP3 players are good as I want to have a look around before I actually get one... get some people's opinions on iPods and other MP3 players.

If anyone has an iPod and/or any other MP3 player like it, I'd be greatful if you could tell me your opinions and which you would go for.

Thanks all!

for me IPOD> the rest

why?

First of all, its simplicity to use..really smooth design, you dont have to press practically anything to select..just slide your thumb everywere.
Sound quality is very good..no complaints there.
Battery Life? This is probably the only con..but its not even that big of a deal as everyone makes of it...at least not to me
Itunes isnt so bad..once you got the hang of it, its really easy to add, fix tags, remove tunes from ipod...
Accessories...theres so much stuff for the IPOD...the ITrip is awesome..you can play your ipod in any stereo..car or home..no more having to carry your CD case everywhere..

Purhaps, But there are major inconveniences with Ipods, Like for example, You can only transfer your mp3s to the device unless your using the Itunes software. I think it's better off if you get an mp3 player that you can plug to the computer easily and then the computer recognizing it as if was a harddrive, That way you can easily just transfer your mp3s to them without the hassle of installing some sortware, For me, I don't use any type of harddrive mp3 players, I just easily burn my mp3s onto CDRs and then I use a portable mp3 cd player for them, Also my DVD Player can play those mp3 cds, So I'm covered. :)

Anapod Explorer lets you drag drop from Ipod to PC, and detects it as a storage device in My Computer..no more need for Itunes..of course its $25..but it's worth it.

Ipods are way too over complicated and are only designed that way to further Apples evil empire of . They got in with their big marketing budget and somehow made single mums and account execs believe that they needed mp3 players.

Heaven forbid you loose any of the peripherals that come with it becasue the usb uses a special $50 mac plug and for some innane reason you need to plug it into a wall socket if your updating the software at any point. Mine constantly s up. I cant transfer non mp3 files onto it anymore. It just stopped working one day :wtf: Dont even get me started on I tunes. Yeah its great having a huge ing mp3 player that takes up half the screen and tries to 'manage' everything for me.

Dont believe the hype, give your money to creative instead. Cheaper, simpler and dont insult you as a consumer in the process.

Not true. There are tons of programs for transferring music to/from ipods without using itunes. I use ML_ipod which is actually a winamp plugin. So as i'm using winamp I can transfer a song to ipod with 2 clicks. Ipods are prett cool IMO.

I agree, IPods are not really all that special, Besides, They are made by Apple, And Apple is such a crummy company for hardware, Stick with brands like Archos or Creative, They make great harddrive mp3 players.
