Was a wicked night. JES = STAND UP GIRL!!!! So kool. Ill have the interview posted and some video of her live preformance in a bit I hope. We ended up chatting for like 45 min backstage when it was all done and just chillin. Everyone was just so nice. Seriously REPUBLIK = RESPECT. The people that work and party there are awsome. Honestly say hi to someone that works there, youll learn some awsome stories.
ps. Luis, so nice of him to come out, spot me in the line and bring us right in. Just that kinda club with the touch of class
Sucks that the mainstreem urban has to be played but thats business right :) SUNDAYS ;)
Anyways, very kool night :)
Respect to all the TA's that sang there heart out front and centre ;)

~From Judge Jules Diary....i forgot to post this a while back. Its pretty kool. Just info.
| quote: | The final port of call was Republik in Toronto Canada on Sunday May 22nd. The following day was a public holiday meaning that the city was hosting a number of big parties. At another Toronto club Danny Tenaglia was playing from 10pm til 2pm the following afternoon. Much as I love my job, I can’t really feel a great deal of empathy with a dj who wants to play a 16 hour set. There’s plenty of great tracks around at the mo, but certainly nothing like 16 hours’ worth. My musical style is all about shorter sets with intensive bursts of energy, and doesn’t translate well into playing for more than a maximum of 3-4 hours.
Republic was an example of an otherwise fantastic venue with a poorly situated dj booth. It was in a corner too far away from the crowd and partially obscured by a speaker stack. However I should point out that it only opened two months ago, and the booth is in a temporary location. Whilst the club wasn’t totally full, the atmosphere was awesome. As someone who loves nothing better than interacting with the crowd, I feel I could have done my job better if I felt more connected with the dancefloor, not removed from it, but it was a good night all the same. After my set I felt it was sensible to let the club promoter know my thoughts- after all they’d got everything else so right, and hopefully the new booth will be more suitable. I was really well looked after and the Toronto crowd continues to be one of the coolest in the world to play to. There’s so many great venues, and Republik is certainly up there with the best of them.

She did not, she doesn't have an upbeat version of it....she hasn't even heard any of the dance remix's of it. Its one of her oldest tracks actually, before ATRC but not released

all i have to say is WHAT THE REPUBLIK?????
this is only the second time i've been there for a saturday nite. last time was way back in april/may i guess. and i loved it, they played sweet house music all nite long and such a good time. it was just as wicked when johan came to town. and this time it all just went to ...
this time around it was all urban hip hop and z103 house. :whip: :whip: the only thing keeping me going was knowing that jes would be doing some kool music.
what is republik trying to do? theres already a room playing hip hop, why does it have to leak into the main room to? and if you want to make it an all urban club on saturday nites, why are you booking ppl like jes to perform? hip hop was played directly b4 and after her set. i was just thinking? wtf is that. shouldn't the dj be building up to the style shes going ot be performing in. it messes with everyone. all the ppl that came to hear her are like? wtf is with the urban. all the ppl that are dancing to urban in the main room are like wtf is this when she came on and like half the room cleared because it wasn't properly anticipated. i enjoyed jes's performance. although i was thoroughly disappointed in the programming of the nite. If a nite club is just seen as a business, then booking jes last nite probably gained republik nothing. to bad, i like the club, but now i'll definately be reconsidering a saturday nite visit. |

Sadly the underground thing didnt have enough support on saturday night. This is Toronto remember, not Europe. Its a long process in the making. Why did Republik book Jes on Saturday? Because even though urban has to be played Republik is still trying to be different than other clubs. As it was, even someone as cool as Jes managed to scare away most of the ginos when she came on.
Lets face it, most canadians like canned cheddar!! Sad but true.
This is why republik is still making a name for itself but on sundays. The owners are avid fans of electronic music and are working very hard to try and balance the business of paying the rent along with the pleasure of having a cool musical experience. Its a very fine line in this city these days believe me.
If only the whole country was like trance addict LOL
If more people came out at the beginning when a lot of cool music was being played on Saturday nights maybe things now would be a whole lot different. But sadly i didnt see much support even from people on this board. |
