Everyones a dj (pg. 2)

the majority of the people who pick up dj'ing drop it within half a year because they realize that 1) they didn't know you actually had to beatmatch and 2) moving the record back and forth doesn't sound the least bit like Qbert or whatever. these people don't bother me...they just tend to disappear and sell their decks on ebay.
then there are those that only buy decks to play at home, for love of music, for fun/relaxation or the odd gig here and there. this is pretty much where i am and most people i associate myself with are at.
the last bunch are the only true s that i find annoying; those who are in it to be cool, for the money, to boast about being a dj, etc. these people should be shot dead...especially when they think they know how to dj but don't know the slightest bit about beatmatching, mixing, etc.
*shrug. my two pence. |

this isnt new. And happens in everything...
for example... when tony haks pro skater came out on the playstation everyone wanted to be tony hawks. withing weeks my town was flooded with this little kids throwing themselves about on skateboards. annoying for me being a skateboarder seeing all this kids take over over skate scene. but the thing is the very few that are still left and still skating now are damn good skateboarders.. |

| I don't think you should be called a dj unless you play out. Play out as in, not your mom or your dog or internet. |

You know its true. Felt the need to rant. To newbies if you want to get fame try getting a guitar. Right now theirs more people matching beats then strumming chords. And if you have no musical ability, play emo. |

First of who told you that we are motivated by fame.
Most people do it just to have a laugh.forget the '' I love music
and feel the desperate need to share it with people'' coming from wannabe purists.
I do it just for fun.For the buzz you get when playing a song people like
and are happy to hear.Or for the fealing you get when you pull of a 3 minute mix
that is so seamless it puts a smile to you face.
We dont stumm chords,
we mix in a harmonicly ( my granma made me take music lessons, and I played bass in a cover band all through highshcool just for the fun of it.)
Eventually some people move on to production and make some dope
you will be paying 10 quid to buy and feel sorry about the fact
that you are just beginning to realise that you cant use djing to feel good about your
self because its ''overblown'' and it has lost its ''misticist'' secret ''integridy''
and has become too popular that is making you want to ''rant''.
lolz
Nothing wrong with people wanting to dj .It fuels the scene.
And you dont have to rant .
All you newbies out there by some decks and fuel the scene,
some of you might be good at it too.
give it a go!!! :) :) :) |

I dident say their was anything wrong with djing to apreciate the music just stating the fact that its ed up to have DJ "iv got decks so i rock" useing the fact that he knows how to use a crossfaider to incorectly cut between two pop songs. And when you say "we" i beleive i am part of the "we" since i have been mixing for the past 5 years, iv also played clasical piano since the age of 8. The reason im not ranting about all the pianoist nowadays is cuz i dont see anyone running off and playing "happy birthday to you" and expect to get respect out of it |

| One thing i do wish i can take back... The DJ thing in front of my name. I've been called that for years, and it's really old. I'd rather be called just chexican. But i don't want to create a new sn, b/c people here may not know im the same guy. i guess that's 20/20 hindsight. |

I started djing about 2 years ago n im 14 now. Although iv been obsessed with edm music since i was about 9, when i started djing i thaught it was so cool to be a dj. Even last year i didnt realise how stupid it was to have DJ in front of my name everywhere i wrote it n i was listening to heaps of J00F around the time when i registerd here and look how stupid my nik is!
Now i mix just because i love music so much but im not saying that it wouldnt be nice to become famouse and rich from djing.
Having new DJs pop up everywhere doesnt bother me because firstly a dj who just wants to be cool wont often get very far because they cannot 'feel' the music and dedicate so many hours to practicing. Secondly i was a new dj that poped up not long ago:happy2: |

well to first add about the guitar thing....
i play guitar, bass, piano, and the drums.... iv done it all, but it all got old and the only thing iv kept is the Piano and DJ-ing... i enjoy it and im starting to get gigs because i would like to make it a weekly thing of playing out weather i get paid or not, i just want something to do with myself, since i have so much free time [and iv already got a girlfriend so dont give me that :p ]
but i believe your right abou there are lots of DJs and sure they may be annoying at first, but i see where you coming from with the "DJs" who either have DJ in front of they're name because they think it makes them cool or they DJ because they want to become rich or some bull like that... yes that does piss me off a bit, but i know because id rather GREAT DJ rather then a famous DJ, im more then likly better then them... or i may not be and i need to practice some more
but the always keep in mind that not every Timmy that gets tables for crimmus is going to stay with it... so just wait for them to relise they suck and fade away
and again with the DJ thing... iv grown as an artist over the past few months, and i dont need my "Super Hero DJ name any more [Cosmic Realm]"
so when i play out i spinn under actual name 'Josh B'
i like DJ-ing and i think it would be cool as a job, but im going to school to do digital animation so ill be making video games.... and thats cool too, so i may not chace after DJ-ing as my job or i might, just depends
so the point is though, is that most dont try and make anything of themselfs with it... and the ones that brag about being a DJ arnt really that serious about it... because i really dont care if anyone knows or not...
thats my thinking anyways |

Cosmic Realm is hot.
My name sucks ass so ive always produced and spun under various aliases... but i def see where ur coming from.
I myself go under the name Allied Nations... which has a lot of relevance considering my tendencies to ramble the globe and my 3 passports.... |
