Ok, so I have been home for 3 days now.. I guess it is about time I posted a little about my trip and my pics and vids for those who want to see them!
I had an absolutely amazing time in Netherlands (as always) :D
I am not going to write a whole lot about the Amsterdam itself though.. I mean.. it is a great city and all.. and I managed to do a ton of shopping and site seeing. Was in Amsterdam, Utrecht and Breda while I was there and spent a load of money shopping!! :p
For anyone who hasn't been to this country though.. it is a must see...so much to do and the parties are the most amazing parties ever!

This are the pics of Amsterdam (and yes I managed to get yelled at for taking a pic in the redlight district)

I also made my rounds to Breda again and yes to Magik Records. While I was there I bought myself a sweet ass Tiesto jacket as well (beats paying for the shippping) but it is a very beautiful small town. Nothing overly exciting to tell about it though.. didn't run into Tijs or anything :(

Also did go to Madame Tussuad's to see the new Tiesto wax sculpture that they were working on earlier this year! Wow do these figures ever look like the actual person. It is a good tourist thing to do there :)

Anyhow.. the first weekend I arrived was the RockIt Open Air festival. It was located on a beach just outside of Utrecht. It was also the first year for this new festival, so it wasn't as packed as normal festivals are..but I would say there was at least 5000 people there. Jasper (NLTA) and I got there around 2pm roughly. We started by walking around and just checking out the place.. seeing which stages were which and who was playing at them when...
There weren't a lot of dj's on the lineup that I actually recognized but I ended up having a wicked time, spending most of my time at the techno stage! :D
Alexander Kowalski (Germany) is what I have to say.. this man can spin.. he was the last dj to play the motion stage and the crowd just absolutely loves him!!! Also saw Funk D'Void, Proluctors, Bart Skils, and made it to the main stage to see Layo & Bushwacka! Holy serious ass shaking going on at that stage!!! The crowd was sooo pumped and everyone was just having a blast! (made a note to self that next time L&B are in TO that I WILL NOT miss this!:D)
I did take a couple of videos during this set as well. In one of the videos, you will notice this guy holding a blowup crocodile...LOL.. this dude was on some messed up drugs (assuming it was acid) cuz he was hugging this thing like it was his best friend!! It was the funniest ever.. and I just couldn't stop laughing. It was my amusment for a good 20 minutes anyhow :p
The highlight of that day for me though was meeting Perry O'Neill!!!
Jasper walks over to me later in the day and says.. "come meet Perry", of course I didn't believe him.. but sure enough.. he was there just partying it up with a few friends and some of the NLTA's.. so we got to chill with him for awhile and I managed to get a pic with him as well. Super cool guy.. we need him to come to Canada to spin *hint hint* :p

So after all this shopping, tourist attractions, Breda and the RockIt festival came the weekend I had been waiting for and the whole purpose of my trip.. DANCE VALLEY!!! :D  :tongue2
DAY ONE:
Jasper and I headed for DV around noon on Friday.. the clouds were starting to roll in and it wasn't looking to promising with the weather for a nice sunny day like last year. Silly me only brought a jean jacket to Holland and totally forgot to pack a sweater in the morning, even though I had mentioned that I needed too :(
We get to the entrance for DV around 130pm and it is totally pissing down rain by this time. This was the only real complaint that I have about this whole festival, was the organization on getting people into the festival grounds quickly... I stood in line in the rain for 2.5 hours to even get into the campgrounds. By this time I was already soaked from head to toe and had no dry running shoes or a dry jacket... my jeans were soaked and was not in a good mood at all!!! :whip:  Keep in mind... I HATE CAMPING!!! So this isn't starting off well for me :(
Once we find our tent.. my mission is to just get to a tent so that I am out of the rain.. so off we go to the Renaissance tent where we had just missed Nick Warren :whip:
But Behrouz was playing now and I got off the wet clothes that I had on and proceeded to just get into the groove. As mad as I was.. I was didn't want the weather to ruin my whole day for me. After Behrouz, I headed over to the Reactor tent to see Derren Kay & Preach  That is where my weekend was the most happening! The music was great and it was a pleasure for me to be there to represent one of Canada's very own dj's!! :happy2:
During Preach's set.. out of the blue come these two guys carrying the Quebec flag.. OMG.. it was just insane.. Preach loved it, I loved it and so we all partied together throughout the set. What a moment that I will never forget :)
After Preach, I proceeded back to the Renaissance stage where Sasha was just finishing up his set and where I pretty much stayed for the rest of the night. Got introuduced to 2 other NLTA's Tim81 & Emre. Tried to go over to the Thank God It's Friday stage for Carl Cox but he wasn't playing (that I remember anyhow) so Jasper and Tim went back to the tent.. and Emre and I continued to chat and party until 4am. When it was time to go back to the tents for sleeping though.. do you think I could remember where my tent was!!!! So before sleep came.. took another 30 min search for the tent.. finally found it and got 3 hours sleep before I had to begin day 2 of DV! :D
DAY TWO:
I wake up to people talking outside my tent at 730am :( I don't really remember getting much sleep after this time! So around 10am I proceed out of my tent to hear some guy say "Good Morning Canada" :p (I guess I had met him the night before :)) Anyhow.. walked over.. took my shower, back to the tent to drop off the bag and off to the party field I went. I had no dry shoes so I had to wear the wet and muddy ones from the day before as well :whip: :whip:
By the time I got to the grounds.. the Saturday (non-camping) crews had started to pile in the entrance now.. they were full of energy and kept the spirits going for the rest of us that is for sure :)
Heading back to the Renaissance tent now.. Joyce Mercedes is playing when we get there.. Redanka takes the stage after here.. here I stand waiting patiently for Lawler to show up.. and waiting and waiting and well... waiting some more.. does he show.. NO!!! :whip: So Marcus James came on instead and took the place of Lawler until the man himself shows up.. Sasha! Well me not being a Sasha fan at all.. I was TOTALLY impressed!!!! He opened up with Daft Punk - Technologic.. the crowd went mental.. I was loving every minute of it.. the NLTA's were hyped... and the tent was packed.. no room to even move at all (felt like home @ Guv :p) He busted into this electro set. Even with having a couple of problems with Ableton.. the crowd didn't seem to mind.. they cheered even when the system went down.. it didn't seem to matter to anyone.. he was totally owning the tent!! During part of this set.. I did have to go sit down and met a wicked guy Maurice from Holland...chatted with him for about an hour.. exchanged email addresses and at the end.. he gave me a free pill to enjoy the rest of my day with  :p then off he goes with his friends! After he leaves.. I quickly ran over to catch Perry O'Neill's set at the Armada stage.. like I said before.. we need to get him here!! He played a wicked set.. good crowd and was completely into his set and enjoying every minute. Then it started to rain just as Schulz took the decks.. so back to see Zabiela is was for me, then Cattaneo played right after. This was the first time I had seen him. I was a bit distracted by the cop that I had met so I didn't completely listen to the set.. but did quite a bit of dancing (getting later into the night now.. and the brain is getting really fuzzy.. don't really remember a whole lot honestly...LOL). Just as Cattaneo was finishing.. I left and went to the Concept stage where Preach was closing the tent for the night. Holy .. the tent was packed, the crowd was pumped and ready and the beats just kept on coming!!! He belted out sooo many good tracks and the crowd just went mental.. it was a good feeling to look behind me and see the reactions and excitment of other people when Preach came on cuz I was feeling the same excitement to see him as they were :)
By the end of his set.. I could barely stand anymore, let alone continue to try and dance. I was completely drained and cold and my feet were soaked and muddy and I just wanted to go to bed but knew I would be kicking myself if I didn't drag my ass to the mainstage to see the man himself.. Paul Van Dyk!!! :D
I missed probably about the first 30 min of his set, but what I did see/hear was beautiful/amazing sounds!! He played The Other Side, Born Slippy, Nothing But You and Crush.. just to name a few of the tracks I heard! Full crowd.. lazer shows which are just umbelievable and cannot be compared to anythere here.. and fireworks at the end. The performance and displays they put on for these festivals is just completely and utterly amazing. I was really glad that I didn't miss it after all.. although I didn't dance, I managed to get some video footage for everyone to see!
Once PvD was over.. it was back to the tent and bed for me. I almost lost my shoes in the mud walking back to my tent.. but in the end, no matter the rain, mud, short sunny periods and my bitchiness for all of this..haha.. I still wouldnt' have missed this party for the world!!! The dj's/crowd made up for the weather no doubt about it. It is amazing just being able to do this party again this year and it is filled with tons of memories for me and many new friends now as well!

ummm.. for now I am saying NO!
Only because that would be the only reason I go again next year.. I wouldn't really need to stay longer than the weekend..
I would like to go somewhere new other than DV for a 3rd year.. maybe Ibiza??
my ideal would be..
WMC in March
Ibiza in Aug/Sept
Netherlands for Awkeneings on NYE 2006
But that will be a very expensive year if I do that :p |
