you know whats funny about both nations ... this might sound disrespectful to some ... so please i mean nothing ...
theres a certain day or week in both countries due to religious beliefs (shiye (sp?)of course ... when people mourn the death of imam hussien ... the son of Ali ...
and they GO CRAZY

The 7 days of mourning or or Moharram (correct me on the days if im wrong)...where do they get the hitting themselves and crying and repeating the names of their leaders concept I'm lost!! but this is certainly something that is shared by the Shi'i muslims in both countries....
For Shi'i muslims this is a week of mourning as their leader Imam hussein who was brutally murdered at Karbala (Iraq) by yazid's son and his entourage, hence the battle of Karbala and the story is loooong and i don't know details....mmmmmm for Sunni's its also a week of mourning since Imam hussein was Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) cousin and son in law. I do know that in Pakistan the Shi'is perform the same ritual, there is way more involved than just hitting themselves with chains..for example charitable stuff...local demonstrations....prayers...majlis(gathering at the local Shi'i mosques or community centres)...i think bashing themselves with chains is a bit traditional and only occurs in remote villages and such...I attended a majlis (a gathering) at a friends house in Toronto as an observer two years ago during Moharram and it was mostly prayers...there were a lot of ppl crying but no one was hitting themselves with anything!
In Pakistan these gatherings take place in Imam bara's (Shi'i mosques) I can confirm that this still takes place in Iran but I'm not aware of the details!:conf: Sahand the video?? where is it from ?? |
