No matter what's being thrown at or used on you (e.g. fireballs, swords, punches, etc...), if you hold up your arms, vertically, in the direction of the blow, you take little to no damage.
If you see a bouncing blinking star, grab it before it disappears.
Every 100 coins gives you a 1-up... So go and pick up pennies lying on the ground. |

| if you fall onto a bed of spikes, the first thing that happens is that you lose the change out of your wallet. then you have a short window of opportunity to get away before you die. If you're poor, you'll just die. |
