the reason I critisize the so called "tech-trance" of today is that its mainly hyped because Tiesto plays it. I even heard a guy mentioning Traffic and Love Comes Again as tech trance. WTF?
Marco V did some excellent tech trance until like last 2 years? then he went mainly proghouse. Especially in his livesets. |
i'd say traffic is nearer techtrance than any other subgenre.. just a very simplified commercialised version of it. like sandstorm or something is to epic trance
also... i've listened to quite a few tiesto sets over the past year and haven't heard him play any of those mentioned in the first post, so he can't have cained them that much... |

you are what they call a whining cockboy today.
It's wankers like these that are a disgrace to the scene. Instead of supporting the most deserving of today's artists they go on a mindless crusade of 'back in the day'. Grow up you ignorant fool. There is lot of tripe these days i'll give you that but if you listen closely there's a lot of potential that you and me often tend to overlook. |
Im not a big fan of using "+1" but I honestly believe the above comment deserves it.

Tech-Trance is simply a tune that is principally a techno tune but either has a catchy riff (Cdelmp3) or has a trancy breakdown (Language Tech Dub).
Traffic is bout as commercial as tech-trance gets.
The "proper" stuf usually cums from the likes of Marcel Woods and Marco V. Now tech-trance is really a sub genre of hard trance. Using techy rhythms and riffs in trance tunes is another way to explain it.
So its a bit complex cuz wot i classify as tech-trance might not conform with wot another person thinks is tech-trance. |

very very true, there's really levels of tech-trance, i find marcel woods or mark norman tend to make slightly harder tunes then marco V's older stuff (new stuff is pretty bad).
also check out jowan - pt 78, this is a sweeeet tune |

I don't know why people are getting in a huff over your comments; maybe because you actually know what you're talking about?
Traffic isn't tech-trance; there's no percussion. And alot of what gets called tech-trance these days is pretty much just hard trance.
Tech-trance is all about percussion, which most of these "epic with big bassline" tracks lack entirely. |

I disagree that tech-trance is a subgenre of hard trance. It really drew more from anthem trance than anything else. Check VDM - No Hesitation, which is probably one of the first tech-trance tracks. There were a lot of techy textures in progressive trance before 1999, mostly from Lieb, but that really has more to do with the legacy of trance emerging from german techno than it does with techno fusing back into trance again. Tech-trance as an actual style didn't really exist until 2000. |

IMO few of the best REAL tech trance tracks I've heard in the 21st century:
Martini & Micali - Boundless
Chris Micali - Chant
Mauro Picotto - Planet is good also.
I don't like that dutch cheesy techtrance.. |

Please don't give Tiesto that honor! he does not deserve it. The reason why this "new" style of tech-trance is hyped is because big DJ's like Rank 1, Nu-Nrg etc has experimented with the style, and offcourse God (Marcel Woods). It has NOTHING to do with Tiesto. I don't think i know anyone who likes tech-trance who like Traffic or Love Comes again or Tiesto in general. Offcourse Tiesto play some of this commercial tech style, but it's not much and he also play some Lieb productions |

Yea, I have taken a little liking to tech lately... I think a lot of the tunes have been quality..
Werd, Tiesto is such a con job...
He dropped Omnia at a show I saw him at and I looked around and saw everyone was marveling in ignorant awe at his "abitlities" on the decks and FX... And It was right then that I figured out why he plays tracks like that now, to make the uninformed, which are the majority of his fans -- no offence if you've been a fan for 4 years or more--- think he can do more than he can.
thats my opinion anyways |

IMO it's more techtrance than techhouse, because of the bassline and the chord sounds :)
Something between those genres. But, it's only my definition. Great track from great producer! |
