or you could focus on real issues happening in New Orleans.
I don't expect this hit home for any of you, but honestly the situation is horrible. My dad got out in time but our house is likely gone. Hundreds will be dead before this if over and an entire tri state area has been devastated and left in ruin leaving millions homeless with dead loved ones. It will likely take the better part of a year to clean up the city and smaller parishes at this point.
Yeah it would be 'wonderful' to be a claim adjusted, but telling thousands of families that their house didn't have flood insurance only some other kind and that they have now lost everything they ever owned doesn't sound that great to me. I feel horrible for everyone involved in any way in this incident and I pray they make it out ok in the end. |

I am glad your dad made it out ok Dave! *hug*
it definitely effects you a lot more the closer it is to home for sure...
My parents were in Florida last year after that huge hurricane hit and my mom told me when she got home that it was one of the most devistating things she has experienced because there is nothing you can do to prevent it from happening. She talked with residents about the damage done and the families who lost everything and they learn to cope with it in Florida, but until you have experienced the trauma yourself you don't know. She said it actually brought her to tears.. and my mom doesn't usually cry over this stuff! :( |

thanks.
I saw footage of a man who was forced to choose between holding onto his wife or holding onto his two kids as pieces of his house was beening swept away. His wife ended up making the choice for him as she let go and was swept under the water. He has no other family, no home and had his wife ripped from his hands.
This made me tear up instantly just thinking of such a curcumstance. |

OMG. I saw that as well tonight on the news.. the poor man. He was hysterical and so emotional. Having to choose, I couldn't do it if put in that position (which is why the wife made the choice for him)
It is very upsetting just thinking about it.
There have been a lot of natural disasters that have been very devestating in the last year that is for sure! |

And I didn't get to go before it all got washed out... *Sniff* it's one of my goals to hang out there sometime (HUGE anne rice fan - she just happens to base nearly all over her vampire novels in New Orleans, or at least have part of the action there)... I wanted to see if it's always like she described it. Now i'll only see a remake. |
They have an Anne Rice store there - I bought beer bottles of "Vampire Lestat" beer and her house is nice. Very Louisiana gothic plantation home - with hanging willows, etc. The cemeteries are beautiful as well. |

3,000 more troops are on their way into the city, but apparently the municipal authorities are begging for more federal support.
Has Bush made any formal statements yet? wtf |
