i hate money...but then of course im forced to love it at the same time. Money causes so many problems in this world. The only thing that keeps me from not spending a load of money when i go out is to only bring the amount of money out i wanna spend, and leave the debit card at home! dam those ATMs with the $2.50 charge!!

I was wondering if anyone out there has any tips on how to save money better. It seems like the little things are nickel and dimming my savings away - is clubbing really that expensive?

money problems as a student are nothing compared to what they are like once you graduate, have to pay back student loans and start saving for a home. If I could do it again, I would spend far less time worrying about money during university.

IMO clubbing isn't really expensive if you get on a guest list and don't spend cash at the bar. Can be cheaper than going to a movie most nights.

it is so hard to save money with spending the amounts of money for our lifestyles (clubbing). it actually is way more expensive than any other hobby. i just spend 47 dollars at boa and ready to spend another 60 at LoL. that's crazy talk.
ghetto_fab
I was a sucker at boa!!! I spent 80 not to mention I spend it on 5 drinks theres 40 right there!!!! but when your having so much fun guess moneys not an issue at the time.

oh wow, monthly bank statement just came:

Total Debits: 1,970.02
Total Credits: 1,932.12

aawwllright!

Hmm... how about we all post our total debits and/or credits for the month? Unless such a thread already exists....

Beach420 has the idea. Think about how much money you'd like to spend at the club, add an extra $20 or so, bring that, and don't bring your bank card.

The second option is, open a savings account, and as soon as you get your paycheque, put a fixed percent of money in your savings account. Never, ever, ever touch the money in your savings account, and always make sure to put the money in there every cheque.

I use the second option because I don't like leaving myself with no money just incase something happens.

C.R.E.A.M. get the money,
Dolla-dollah bills y'all!

As said before, a budget is probably a good idea. You just have to stick to it. Also, a long term solution might be to invest a portion of your paychecks into investments that don't allow you to take the money out for a specified period of time. CDs can have terms that are as short as a month or so, and as long as a couple years. I try to put aside a bit of my earnings every year into a RRSP. Investing your money shelters it from your spending habits while providing you with a return on your investment, giving you more money to spend in later-days!

werd. i didn't have a care in the world when i was in school and the government was giving me "fee" money. now i have to pay it back, and it sucks!!!!

however, i have a budget figured out and i'm sticking to it dammit!!! i used to be super good with money, and i will be again. i just figured out that just by walking to, as well as from, work i will save over $500 a year. write down every monthly expense that you have and then see how much you have left over after that...and try not to spend more than that. simple in concept, hard to execute. ;) and like people have said, don't bring more money than you want to spend out with you...and don't bring your debit card either. and the savings idea works as well...i put $ each paycheck into an rrsp instead only cos i have a good benefits plan with work and i'm old. and it helps with income tax time, i think.

k bye!

RRSP baby! It's safe from budget problems and it's tax-sheltered to boot!

totally true.. the clubbing takes away from all of our pockets no doubt, but we keep spending it.

I know, since I have been home from the Netherlands.. I have not stepped foot into one club, and for once I have actually gotten ahead of the game and I have saved a bit of cash.

Ask me after this weekend though how things are? :p
