Oh God, this is gonna make me sound like a total arse, but here it goes :) If you're in a hurry, skip to the part after the list.
This is something I've meant to do for quite a long time. During the years I spent browsed these forums, I learnt a lot more than I could ever imagine, and got to know a bit of people that, although I've never met, showed me things I wouldn't ever be able to see elsewhere. And this was just a forum... It's a shame I haven't had the opportunity to meet the lot of you in real life, because I believe I could've learnt a lot more than I did.
Nevertheless, these lessons meant a lot to me, and now I feel it's time for me to move on. Suddenly, too many things started to work in real life, and moderating and posting on TA would hold me back a bit (I have this tendency of writing mammoth posts). It's not like I'm quiting cold turkey, I still hope to post every once in a while in the political forum or in the amateur producers forum. But I'm indeed drifting away. Before leaving though, there's too much I'm thankful for, and, despite of the risk of sounding like an attention whore, I'd like to say a few words. The names/groups are in no particular order... the numbers and letters are there because of a bug in the code.
Sorry if I'm forgetting someone... there's just too much people I'd like to mention :) As for the mods, I've already written a message to them somewhere else, so that's why I didn't list all of them.
- North American TA's: I'm a bit embarrassed to admit how anti-American I was before joining this community (it's something I learnt at school actually, and kinda ran in the family), but the obvious was eventually shown during the time I was here (that this nationality bollocks doesn't mean a thing). I'm sure I'm forgetting some people but, what the heck:
- Arbiter, Diginut: You taught me a lot more than I believe you could imagine. Despite of being just a beginner, if today I know anything about logic, psychology and Nietzsche, that was thanks to you. You also helped me a lot in how to deal with people (becoming more and more a tolerant person). Thanks for that. I still wonder what Arbiter looks like though, as I have this idea of him being a hot Cuban girl :p
- BTG: Thanks for sharing about what happens when you put cats in hockey tables and how ducks can be hedonistic.
- Abject Silver: Thanks for hooking me up with that thing... it didn't really work (unfortunately) but I was glad to know I could have your help.
- Ishkur: You've got no idea of how much my English improved, thanks to you. Also, if today I know as much as I do about music (which is not much compared to your knowledge) and even architecture, that's thanks to you. I'm still looking forward to having those hockey classes one day :)
- Floorfiller, Nou, Mebot, UWM, Orbax, ... the Core: You guys rule ;) Reading your posts was not only entertaining, but it was quite enligthening in many ways.
- igottaknow, josh4, loconet: Thanks for the help on PHP and MySQL. If today things are that well for me, it's because often had people like you to help me.
- Porky: Hey Chris, are you still posting? Thanks for all the help during the time I was depressed and stuff, and I'm also thankful for the pdf's you sent. Indeed, I wish we lived in the same city (or state), we'd be great friends.
- Pio, TTA: Thanks for the help on music history.
- Jdat: Thanks for all the tips and hints on music production.
- Noisician: Spacibo, mate, you're the one to blame for getting me addicted to acid music :)
- Elena is in North America as well, isn't she? If you're reading this, thanks for all the help in Korean (gotta thank DJ Tek for that as well) and for introducing me to the art of fried ramen.
- UKTA's: Need I say anything? :D
- Chojin: Thanks for all those hhc sets, hehe.
- Nukleuz, Jackson: You guys rule... Nukleuz helped me a lot back in the time I was feeling down and I really enjoyed those radio streams, and Jackson also introduced me to the whole koan thing, among other things. Cheers.
- Az: It's a shame that record deal thing never really became anything other than a plan but yeah, thanks for having given me the opportunity, it was really an ego boost.
- Ste: Heh, I still remember that first pm I sent you asking whether I could have the .psd file of the Gatecrasher lion.
- Mikey Mike: Yes, you. Thanks for showing things about myself that I couldn't see. This sounded rather gay, I know, but this gives you the opportunity to use that smiley as well :D
- Fundamental: I've already told you that you really helped me in my relationship with my girlfriend, I believe, but it's never too much to thank you for that. Cheers, mate.
- Auta's: I'd like to mention far more than just a few of you... you guys are great.
- Renegade: Even if English were the only thing you had helped me with, that would be quite a lot. Those posts of yours opened my mind to a lot of new concepts.
- Webmeister: Thanks for the help with my English when I applied for that scholarship. It really did mean a lot to me.
- Astroboy: Heh, I got addicted to that Melbourne Shuffle thing. Thanks for teaching me the basics and the help in Russian.
- -= M =-: *throws a brick at him* :D
- European TA's (from the continent): there are also too many too list... Trancegiant, Haak, Sand Leaper, Nik....
- All the people from Ibero-America, the political forum and helped me giving me hints or points of view in all the other boards.
Well, I've got to go now as I'm late for work. In spite of everything, I'd like to say it was really a pleasure to have been part of this community, and I'm really looking forward to posting here every now and then once I sort things out.
Do you guys have orkut? If you do, pm me so I can find you guys (my profile is on my sig though); if you don't pm me so I can invite you guys over. I don't know what other social websites are popular, but I have an account on hi5 as well, I believe.
Finally, my msn is lira_marcus at hotmail dot c/o/m... and my e-mail is lira.marcus at gmail in google talk... I'm hardly ever there but it'd be a pleasure to talk to you guys :) |
