Hurricane Katrina Fundraisers?

Just wondering if there's anything we could do collectively to raise funds for the hurricane relief efforts? I see the stories from New Orleans and it's so sad to see people suffering this way. Could Nocturnal Wonderland maybe set up a booth for the Red Cross (or some other charity), or maybe a "Hurricane Katrina tip jar" be set up at some of our clubs?

If we all could do just a little bit (and I'm sure a lot of us already have), then I think it would really add up and go a long way. If it's not possible, here's the link for the American Red Cross donation site:

https://www2.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp

Also, check the online directory of matching gift companies to find out if your company will match your gift:

"Thank you for your generous gift to the American Red Cross 2005 Hurricane Relief Fund. This fund makes it possible for the Red Cross to help nationwide Hurricane disaster victims of 2005 with critical needs such as shelter, food, clothing, counseling and other assistance. It's because of the 2005 Hurricane Relief Fund that our response can be immediate regardless of its location or the community’s ability to financially support our efforts.

Your generous support means the most to the families who rely on Red Cross to help them through some of the most difficult times of their lives.

Please continue to visit us at <http://www.RedCross.org> to see how we’re using your 2005 Hurricane Relief Fund donation to make a difference, and for the most current disaster updates and stories about the people being helped.

Together, we can save a life."

Absolutely. Many large corporations are matching employee donations. My parents work for an aerospace firm which matches so that is where my contribution is going. Although, the donation won't be in my name nor will I receive a tax deduction, in the better scheme of things, it is the most sensible thing to do.

I know a lot of you TA's out there are students, unemployed, etc but if you are in a financial position to donate, please do so. My friends out there would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

Mod,
Please make this a sticky.

Last year when another Disaster hit over seas, Partys/Events where thrown and all the procedes went to The relife efforts. For example MNS had John Digweed play and all the ticket sales became a donation.
Something like that needs to be done again.
Next Friday, Basic is going to be throwning a party with their residents where all the money will go to Red Cross. But more can be done. So many people lost their homes, their familys and their lives.
I think TA's can do the same thing as Basic. I know many of the TA's 0n here are Dj's and promotors and can pull something together. I know that people have a lot of connections where maybe a club owner will donate his/her venue. I also know that some of the TA's on here have connects to a "bigger name" Dj that won't mind donating their time for the effort....

Cool Xone made a very good point.. If you can donate anything please do so every $1 adds up and makes a difference.

I'm actually trying to get word to the Love Parade organizers about maybe setting up a table or tables or booths inside the LP Festival area where people can donate....imagine if there's 100,000 people and the average comes out to $1 per person...that's $100,000. And I imagine the overall total could be so much higher.

I'd say all of the above! I just wouldn't want anyone to wait feeling like they need to donate through TA, Red Cross, or at an event as the victims of this natural disaster need help now. Of course, it's going to take time putting whole cites back together, so I'm sure that funds raised later will still be put to good use.

I agree that even $1 multiplied by thousands of people is thousands of dollars. If the tables were turned and we needed help, I'd like to think that thousands of people would be dancing their asses off, having a good time and helping us out at the same time! :D

Paul van Dyk at the Mayan, Wed Sept. 21st:

"Also this is a benefit to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina and proceeds will go to the American Red Cross!"

Vielen Dank, Paul! :)

For anyone who would like to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts but doesn't work for a company that will match the donation, I received this email from Robinson's May/Federated. They will double your donated contribution and no purchase is necessary - donations can be made online at this link:

http://www.robinsonsmay.com/gifts/O...-_-NA-_-Katrina

The fine print: They only match donations up to $1 Million, so if you donate over $1 Million I'm afraid you're SOL ;)
