So I went to my cousins house yesterday evening to visit. It was her little brothers birthday party so my dad and I droped in for the second half to visit and stayed the evening.
Anyways my cousin and I got talking and Im like so you go to a lot of local bands and stuff, and she said yeah. Then she asked what I listened to, and I replied trance. And she was like "Oh like techno (or DDR music)." Im like not really thats cheeze music (DDR stuff) and techno is a lot different than trance (I dont really listen to techno other than mauro picotto now and then, which is more trance-techno)
So I showed her some websites including etn and di for quick references to what trance/edm is. She listened for a short bit and said she liked it. I showed her tranceaddict really quick, to show her where she can find events in the Chicago parties section. I also showed her Iskur's edm guide, but said to take his comments lightly. And was blown away by the whole new underground genere of music that she didnt even knew existed.
Then I had her download that new G&D set they they have up on their myspace/email letter, as an example. I was showing her a sample of without you near and love theme dusk and explaining their popularity. And she said she doesnt like listening to bands/music that gets hyped and gains popularity. Im just like in the US nobody even knows about edm so who is there to prove to that its hyped or what not, since nobody really knows about it. Plus I was thinking to myself thats pretty shallow cuz if the music is good then listen to what you like even if its cheezey or hyped or popular.
Then I said trance ppl had you emo ppl to her. And she was like why!! OMG !! wtf. Im didnt really say much or really give a reason. (Even though emo ppl are phonies/fake....etc..) Then she was like do you hate emo ppl, Im like not really as long as they are cool ppl and wahtever (didnt want to affend her and stuff, but we shall see how that goes.)
Then a ton of her emo friends came over, like 4-7 of them. They were like OMG! edm Hardcore is way different than emo Hardcore. And they kept listening to weird samples on Iskurs EDM Guide of Hardcore/Jungle/and other crazy EDM generes that I dont really listen to. (Im into trance/house/tech from DJs ranging from PVD to G&D to Zabiela and DeepDish, etc. you get the point) But I dont like Hardcore or crazy Jungle.
Anyways she didnt listen to much of the edm music I was showing her cuz she was busy with other stuff and her friends, but she might later or if I send her more sets. So what should I guys do from here if anything. Do we edm lovers want some phony emo kidies invading our music just cuz its underground or cuz they like the music. Should BTG and other still stick it in the p00per. :stongue: :wtf: Just Kiddin :o
Sorry for the long post. I am in Illinois visiting ppl until Thurs, and I will see my cousin one more time I think. Suggestions? I expect crazy COR responses. :haha: :stongue: How could I have it any other way? Then when i get back its off to SF LoveParade. (BTW I got one extra ticket for sale for the afterparty at Bill Grham, PM or [email protected] if you want it for about $35-40~ish or something) |

| I'd say instead of trying to do an 180º turn on her musical taste you should try to change her attitude, as going all emo-depressed is a pointless dead end. But if she liked edm, then "feed" her some more, just don't push it too hard or you'll probably look like a fanatic freak. Also consider she has their own personality and tastes, you can't expect anyone to have the exact same taste and attitudes than yours. |
