Yeah, HDMI is the new type of plugs, But not all HDTVs have them, Plus you would need to buy a receive with that same type of plug, It's recomended to check if the HDTV receive has plugs for HDMI and VGA on them.

Vga would mostly be used in extremely high end applications ( running an HTPC or upscaling processor for example )

DVI and HDMI are pretty much the standard for HDTV interconnects between receiver and tv.

My Uncle has a Panasonic HDTV, It doesnt come with the built in receiver, But he has a RCA HDTV Direct TV receiver and has it connected to the HDTV with the VGA plugs, Cause that DirectTV receiver only uses the VGA connectors, I have yet to see how it looks though.

Thanks guys... keep the suggestions coming.

PVD, I'm not a fan of Best Buy but it's close to my parent's place in NJ and they are old and can't deal with electronics, lol.

So i did full-serve plasma home theater sales there for 2 years....

id suggest getting the samsung DLP 43 inch if you are closer than 13 feet away. Talk them down a bit and say you want the 4 year performance plan...which you do from them....

actually that

Go to Costco and get the sony grand vega LCD rear projection. Thats exactly what I would do.

I can tell you abuot speakers and bestbuy making double their cost on them and you can say give me 4 speakers and a sub for 80% of the sticker price and ill buy them with service on the sub

theyll do it.

Get the TV from costco though , they return any time and the Gran Vega is my favorite TV :D

i was thinking about the dlp... why do you recommend the grand wega over the dlp orbax?

worth. What you get for the difference in cash between the next best thing and how good IT is.

I stared at this for 2 years and it takes a FINE eye to be able to look at one, close you eyes and go look at the other and tell you how different they are.

You need to sit there and look and have a professional tell you that THAT is what 3000 worth of clarity looks like..

LCD is tested, clear, and very reliable with AWESOME colors.

DLP is better, less tested, but Texas Instruments developed and also reliable. Better clarity worse colors...

but its NIT PICKYYYYYYYY

it takes a PROFESSIONAL who stared between them for YEARS to tell you the difference!

So yeah...id seriously do it through costco.

if you want a cheapy HD, get the Toshiba HD standard CRT rear tube ones and love it, because they seriously rock.

but for next level...picture is half, sound is half and if you want them all to be great...ill tell you about speakers that are important.

TVs are easy hehe.

any tvs by hitatchi... i just picked up a 57" hdtv hitatchi and love it
keithos27
what abou tthat sony tube hdtv 34" xbr?
Orbax
how far away are you?
Vlad
I advise against plasma... they last for like 5 years, unless your parents decide to upgrade before than.

In my opinion, LCD's have the best quality... LCoS is the new Rear Projector, but they are pretty expensive.

Orbax
LCoS needs a few more years before it becomes viable.

probably about 10-15' distance... keep in mind what is there now is a 42" (i htink) old ass rear-projection sony xbr.... that is on the big size (i thought) for the room... it's in the basement so no natural light.... i know with the 16:9 ratio the 34" may seem small though, right?
