There's not much quality psy released today if you ask me, the old stuff is in general much much better. Check out stuff from Eat Static, Juno Reactor, X-Dream, Pleiadians, Doof, Cosmosis, The Infinity Project, and you'll see what I mean.
Today, the only good side of psy is prog-psy. There's been several threads on that already, but Vibrasphere, Son Kite, Ticon, Atmos, Elysium Project and BLT are some artists I would recommend.
And a general advice: Listen before you buy! |
Are you high? :p lol
Peace,
Have a nice day :D |

| there is a lot of psy but there is so much out there, you have to be determined to trawl through the trash to get to the gems, but stuff by xerox & illumination and wizzy noise usually floats my boat. also GMS does the odd good tune/remix of late. |

I'm not high, but thanks for your concerns. If you could direct me to some good psy made recently I'll be happy, but I won't get my hopes too high....
There's some good stuff out there of course, but when 99% is crap, the odds aren't too good are they? |

personal favourites (in case anyone hadn't noticed) would be Wizzy Noise, love the entire latest album, it's kinda cool cos it's not full on with the usual cliché bassline etc, it has some great percs & fx and lots of clever chord tricks to keep my ears trained on so many levels :D
other good Psy out there atm includes imo
Xerox & Illumination
Wizzy Noise
Some Astrix (not the vocal stuff tho :p)
Space Tribe
Protoculture
Psysex
Talamasca
Alternative Control
Popstream
Psypilot
Hypersonic
Hux Flux
Logic Bomb
Vibrasphere
Shulman
Eat Static
SBK
Ticon
X-Dream
Orion
Psydrop
the stuff there ranges from full on to prob semi-cheese to progpsy but includes a lot of what I look for. Personally I don't think you can go wrong with the swedish stuff as far as prog psy goes. Livesets don't really interest me, I check out the album samples & if i find that half of the tracks interest me, add it to the 'to buy' list |

No I think you are definately high. No question there, you can deny it all you want... ;)
I can direct you to what I like but I dont know your tastes and couldnt really be arsed finding out what they are to be honest. If I were to recommend some good current psy producers, I'd say...
More melodic:
Wrecked Machines
Shanti Markin (aka Juvenile)
Sirrius Isness
Wizzy Noise
Broken Toy
The Misted Muppet
Electro Sun
More techy:
Psysex
Sub6
Bliss
Point
Dynamo
Black & White
Shift
G-Light
If its not your thing, fair enough, but to say the productions released today is 99% crap... well your not really listening to much psy then mate. I'd spend some time re-educting yourself before making broad sweeping generalisations like that. |

Compared to the quality of the stuff released some years back I certainly feel that most of the stuff released today is sub-standard. Maybe it's my taste, but I'm not the only one who feels this way. Sure, full-on is not my thing, but even that was better in the beginning. Nowadays it's just the same formula over and over again. For me, that's not very psychedelic. |

| yes i'm getting fed up on the full on. I wonder why the izraeliz themselves dont get tired. They just use exactly the same formula over and over again. |

The australian producer Mr Peculiar has done a really great job with his album called Mind-Dala

Also stuff from Human Blue, The Digital Blonde, Protoculture, Voice Of Cod, 12 Moons, GMS etc ... is worth listening too :) |
