'Super' PC but stuttering real fast in FL (pg. 2)

| I have onboard and I use around 500 buffer size, which is pretty low on the scale. I still dont see why ppl suggest turn buffer size up all the way to fix lag o.O |

3) i have buffer size maximized
4) no programs in the background running
5) it starts stuttering and having problems after 4/5 simultaneous vst's (not even z3ta but v-stations)
6) what is the problem? i want to make complex tracks but i cant! Is it the on board sound card? Is it FL Studio??
ps I have tried Asio4all but it got worse (uber-stuttering)
will it improve using ableton live?
will it improve buying a new sound card (guess not)?
will it improve throwing my pc out the window?
what the hell is wrong? |
What's wrong is that you don't have a "super computer"! :-P
The setup you describe is not suited for advanced music production.
Upgrade RAM and soundcard, and you'll be allright. |

wow thanks everybody, some great advices...
My onboard soundcard is: Realtek AC97 Audio
in my fl output settings i can choose between:
- primary soundblablabla (its in dutch so i dont know how to translate exactly)
- Realtek AC97 Audio (good? bad?)
But both have the same problem
And yes, my cpu is at >80% all the time sometimes almost 100% (it sais in the fl cpu load meter in fl studio) |

The CPU definately isn't any problem, I have an AMD Athlon 2600+ and can load a truckload of VSTi's. I'd definately go for a soundcard that has a good buffer size (I don't really have much problems with latency turning it up) to avoid crackling as much as possible.
Any stuttering that is still caused is gone after I completely render my track though, so I can't confirm whether it's exactly the same problem?
Upgrading RAM to 1GB might be a good idea, a bit more can never hurt. Be sure to make it about the same speed RAM as your current RAM as it might affect otherwise. |

It kind of sounds like neither of those are actually ASIO. ASIO drivers will usually have the word "ASIO" in them. :p
I ran a quick google search and couldn't find any ASIO drivers for the Realtek AC97. They may not exist. If your onboard sound does not support ASIO then you're definitely going to need a new sound card (even a cheapo SB Audigy will do). WDM/DirectSound will not get you very far in music production.

The minimum buffer size you can use will vary with hardware and track. Some people, particularly those with older hardware, get crackling very easily, so they turn their buffers up to avoid getting underruns. There's really nothing wrong with latency unless you're recording in realtime - and even then, you can always adjust later. |

toggle polling and hardware buffer on and off (fruity settings) as they can help or hurt you. also, pick a sample buffer that works for you; too low or too high can actually cause those little pops and clicks. aslo disable all of that smooth visual feedback stuff because it doesn't do anything worthwhile.
maybe pick up some asio drivers @ www.asio4all.com. |

| Hi. Try using the ASIO4All drivers on the net. They work well with the Realtek cards. Also you may need to use 16 bit mode since Realtek AC97 does not support 24 bit. If your CPU use is that high you'll need to find out what else is running and turn it off. I would do all you can on the software/configuration side before buying more hardware. Good luck. |

i have that realtec chip also.. and i use it when i'm not monitoring!!
my latence is about 30 ms.. it supports 24 bit 96000
i can use like 20-30 v-stations if i want..
man it's bout your cpu/motherboard/ram/irq settings |

damn!!!
btw someone said, you need asio for music production and our chipset doesnt have asio, is that true??? is it important? |

Asio is designed for low latency reponse of sequencers and plugins. If you achieve a latency which you're satisfied with there is no need to get a soundcard which supports asio. I've worked with the same realtek chip as mentioned above with 20ms latency which is doable imo. If you think your computer responds to slow to your midi keyboard for instance, asio is there to take care of that. |

MY COMPUTER:
3500+
1gb ram
fas harddrive
x800xt pe vivo
i dont remember whats my motherboard..
i use onboard chip when i just play with fruity or reason.. but when i make seriously i put my firewireaudiophile on..and monitors..
i even use realtecs drivers but i have asio for all installed for audiophile...
thois just google asio4all and download it and install..
then go to fl
open audio options and change that 4all driver.. tell if something happens..
or then reinstall/buy prog :D |
