it gets even worse when i use the asio4all in fl, a 140 bpm track is played as a 40 bpm track or something with lots of stuttering in between |

WHAT ABOUT YOUR IRQ SETTINGS.. DO YOU HAVE WINXP??
BECOUSE THEN I KNOW THAT XP IS MAKING YOUR IRQ AND IT PUTS IT TO VIRTUAL SLOT..WITCH IS IRQ 12->..
SO WHEN PROCESSOR IS RUNNING IT WOUND COUSE SUTTERING SOUD...
IT COULD FIX WITH REINSTALL WIN..
INFO YOU CAN FIND @ MAUDIO WEBSITE.. FROM FAQ
ANOTHER POINT..
RUN ANTIVIR OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT
SORRY ABOUT CAPS..I NEED IT @ WORK :D |

You need to change your asio4all settings. the buffer size is probly alot higher when you use asio4all, and your comp cant handle it. or the other way around. im not sure. but i use asio4all around 250-500 buffer size and get 2ms latency. |

| Yes, play with the settings on ASIO4All, turn off inputs if not in use, force 16 bit, change buffers etc. I have that chipset too but I don't use it for music production. I would look into your cpu utilization too. I have a p4 2.26GHZ and my cpu utilization is nowhere near that high. I do have a gig of RAM and use EnergyXT, not FL though. What's your cpu with no programs open? Check in task manager. If it's more than 5% and your RAM is over 125Mb you have things running that shouldn't/don't need to be. |

or goto tsk mngr, look at all process's running under your user name. You should know what every process is running under your user name. that means your windows account name. If its under the user name SYSTEM or Local/Network SERVICES, it doesnt matter, you dont need to know what it does.
ATM all i have running is:
Explorer.exe
IEexplorer.exe
AIM.exe
CLEDX.exe (cubase dongle crack)
CubaseSX.exe
and TSKMNGR.exe of course
=)
If you find something that you dont know what it is, and running gayware cleanup software doesnt get rid of it, GOOGLE IT. |

| LOL @ all the people telling this guy his CPU's not fast enough. Stop messing around with your onboard audio and buy a half-decent soundcard like the Audiophile. I'm still using an Athlon t-bird 1.4 GHz CPU and it doesn't choke up until I start using tons of reverbs and other complex effects in Cubase SX. 5 VST instruments should not be choking a 64 bit processor. Also, learn how to tweak the out of XP to get it running optimally. Try www.musicxp.net to start... |

| I went from a 1.4 p4 512 ram SBLIVE! soundcard too 3ghz p4 2gb ram with onboard soundcard, and the difference is ninja-tastic. I doubt he needs a new card, he's just got a a setting wrong or something. Maybe a gayed up version of FLStudio. |

This is probably the main reason your onboard soundcard hasn't given you any problems - that's a load of RAM. Also, if you (and the person who started the thread) ever want to do any recording from external sources, your onboard card's mini-plug input just isn't going to cut it. |

| I have a big-plug to mini-plug converter, and its worked decently too record a guitar through an amp's headfone jack and also though the headfones out on my EMU Proteus keyboard. Are you aware of the converter or does it do something bad im not aware of? |

musicxp.net is a great site tnx. Btw I somewhat solved the problem now, i found out that when i removed 2 voxengo compressors it went to 25 percent instead of 100, i guess there's something wrong with them. I always add these voxengo thingies first when i start a new project, so thats why i never solved the problem. Damn im stupid. Anyhow tnx for all the help, i will definately buy a new sound card, despite solving the problem...
ps are voxengo plugins known for their high cpu usage? |

Here's the thing about onboard sound: the components being used are just not quality parts. Why would a MoBo manufacturer put top-of-the-line jacks (in or output) and good quality AD/DA converters in their products? These are consumer-level products meant for mass consumption, and the masses usually can't tell the difference between 128 Kbps MP3 and CD quality! Just because an audio chipset claims 24 bit/96KHz recording capabilities, doesn't mean it's going to do it well. Cheap I/O and AD/DA converters can result in:
- bad signal-to-noise ratio -> everything you record will have noise in it that can't really be cleaned up
- low dynamic range
- signal distortion
- "dull" or "lifeless" reproduction
In addition, cheaper soundcards can sometimes record environmental noises, like the spinning of a hard drive or DVD - that kind of thing.
Some of these things might not really be evident to the untrained ear, especially if you don't know what you're listening for.
There's a lot more that goes into a good soundcard than just solid drivers. |
