| I think Respect is a huge thing to have and to give... it has to be earned of course. I respect alot of people for who they are but it doesnt mean I trust them. I give respect before trust..... just a weird way of doing it |

Margs, it's funny how you say it should be earned...for me it's the other way around...
...I respect everyone to begin with...they would have to do something for me to LOSE respect for them. |

I initially afford everyone a certain amount of respect, but anything beyond that must be earned. |

sounds good when you read it, but alot of people will take advantage of this point of view and you over.....everything needs to be earned |

Respect and trust are different things.
I try to respect the new people I meet, and afford them trust that extends as far as - but not into - my wallet. |

...I think you were talking about trust, shifty...I've never been ed over by respecting someone that didn't deserve it (actually, you can still be ed over because you lose credibility if you vouch for someone you respect and they end up letting you down)...that HAS happened to me...
...so nevermind; originally the TRUST bit seems to be something that you can get ed over by way more (e.g. money, love, etc.) but still be careful about who you respect.
Ah it, I'm too naive to be careful about these sorts of things...I feel I'm lucky that the people I know will (hopefully) take care of me. :D |

yes, respect and general politeness and friendliness are two different things. i guess it's hard to tell if a person is just being friendly and doesn't really respect you or if they truly respect you. |

Hey man, I wasn't questioning that; after reading Diginut's post after yours I kinda thought he was referring to your post and I also didn't see a clear example of how you could get screwed over for respecting somebody...but then I came up with an example all by my lonesome...do you have any different examples? (just out of curiosity) |

must be earned. |
I disagree.
I think respect should be given to everyone and anyone until proven they don't deserve it. And even then, there should ALWAYS be a standard level of respect that one should give to another ************.
EDIT: After continuing on and reading the rest of the thread, I noticed that some others have already stated what I just did. Anyway, happy to see some people agree :) |
