Tiesto? PvD? Check this out will ya??

Well, gladly you managed to check out this thread since I'm terribly curious to know why do people still vote for Tiesto and PvD. I would really like to find a decent reason why the hell should we vote for Tiesto or PvD.
In fact, I would like someone to give me a damn good reason why Tiesto is sooo over rated. The guy's sets and latest productions can't even compete with other tracks 'n mixes. I truely hate it when people say that Tiesto is better than Armin or that PvD is better than I dunno who. Come on!!! You're actually saying that Tiesto's recent albums are better than other DJs' albums?? Are you nuts?? What the hell are you smoking?!?!? Please don't give me all this crap about different tastes and like that. Tiesto isnt about taste or anything anymore. I was just at his gig here in Dubai last night, it was packed really. I actually gave myself the impression that MAYBE MAAAYYBBEEE Tiesto's gonna pull off a good set. Unfortunately he didnt. It was worse than PvD's set here in Dubai too.
Same goes for PvD. I truely don't like his productions. My fave PvD production by far is his remix of Members of Mayday - 10 in 1. That's it! I haven't really heard The Other Side yet but I'm not expecting much. And I can't find anything special in his mixes too really. Oh and what's with PvD saying that "the new trance sound doesn't appeal to him" ?!?!?
To me, PvD and Tiesto are nothing and I would like to find posts with good reasons why people still vote for them and why are they still topping the DJ charts.

P.S: It just kills me everytime I listen to Tiesto's so called track Adagio For Strings when it's actually William Orbit's. I truely hate that track. Ferry's remix all the way. Mind the word "remix"
Thanks
Nell
1. You shouldnt be taking productions in to account when voting in a DJ poll

2. It isnt william orbits track, it's samuel barber's (sp?) ferry remixed the william orbit version, tiesto made the track from the original classical piece.

3. there's already a million threads like this, why another one? use the search and use the current threads ffs.

4. AND yes, people must be voting for these DJ's for a reason! If you can't see why then that must come down to opinion.

While I'll agree with you, this is Tiësto-bashing thread #11346852879653785. Un-needed.

It was Samuel Barber's before Orbit's.

Even though I'm not a big Tiesto fan, and I do think his albums are poor. It's all down to musical taste. I love Ferry's album and even Armins new one is growing on me. A lot of people would slate both. "Armins is uninspired" and "Ferrys is not trance".

Who gives a . Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that all the thousands of people who go to see him are wrong. They just prefer his music.

Personally I'm not a hardcore trance fan and I don't claim to be. I listen to it occasionally and that's how I like it.

That being said I like both of these artists (PvD quite a bit more, though) because they create accessible music and very "listenable" sounds.

Stuff like ISOS4 disc2 for me is very relaxing and I love to listen to it when I'm at the end of the night or just driving around town in my vehicle.

I like PvD because he seems to have a bit of a harder style than most other DJ's I've listened to and the sets I have listened to are pretty consistent -- not much junk, at least in my opinion.

Granted I didn't vote in the DJ poll because I'm not knowledgable enough in the genre to assert my opinion.

So there's a newbie's opinion for you on why people like Tiesto and PvD.

it's all about popularity. A lot of the people who vote in the djmag polls probably havent seen a lot of the smaller names, and therefore know no different than to vote tiesto. Also, and i hope i'm not being big headed in saying this, a lot of people arent as clued up as us guys on music/DJ'ing, so they'll go out, have an absoloutely amazing time while watching tiesto, and not notice the 5 second transitions and fader slams and trainwrecks. Then they'll go and vote for him.

The reason why i have used tiesto as an example is that i still rate PvD as an excellent DJ, although he hasn't really blown my socks off this year, compared to tiesto, his technical ability is amazing. Whether that is because technically, he is a better DJ, or because he can still actually be bothered to mix properly when he plays out is not really for me to say:)
