PvD at Dance Valley (confused about setup)

I just watched this video of Paul van Dyk's closing set at main stage from Dance Valley. It's no secret that he uses Final Scratch of some similar hardware with a laptop - but one thing confuses me. Don't you have to have turntables to be able to play music from FS? (Or whatever he uses?). This video is 90 minutes long and not once can I spot him even touching a turntable or a CD disc - he's frequently messing around with his laptop and all I see is him playing around with is the CDJ-1000's (but I don't see any CD's)...how is that?
I don't play buying FS - I'm just curious. Does it work with CDJ's as well? And how?
I do appologize if this topic has been discussed before... |

Those laptops are plugged directly into the mixer and the songs are played from the laptops. He was probably using FS and Ableton.
As far as him screwing around with the CDJ's, he was probably using a combination of Ableton samples with a CD. |

according to others (noted in TA, as well as Rane forums, etc) PvD switched to Rane Serato Scratch Live...which is basically the same concept as Final Scratch.
Anyways, Serato allows you to control music files on the laptop with specially encoded CDs (similar to the time-coded vinyl). That's why he never took the CDs out of the CDJs...
I didn't see the video, but I'm assuming this is probably it. If it was Ableton, he probably didn't even need to touch the CDJs, unless he was playing a CD. |

Oh, that about sums it up. Thanks for the clarification. |

I've heard of him using Ableton recently. I think he was using it at his Central Park show in NY.
Where can I get that video? |

| I dunno about autopitch because at least once in this set one of his usually tight mixes slips out of match for a split second... :) Also, he's adjusting the mixes with the jog wheel... |

Looks like Ableton to me...I guess he uses both Scratch Live and Ableton Live, but probably not together? no clue... :)
