Regarding joining the military. First i repect those who want to serve our great country, they are the defenders of our liberty that we all enjoy today. Not only referring to our present military but also our past, heading back to the revolutionary war to modern times. Like someone mentioned an idea that a citizen should be in the army like in 2 yrs w.e when he or she reached 18, i think its not a very good idea. Most military states/socialist and some communist in the past have adopted this concept. Shiet we even see this in Cuba from my understanding that you have to undergo some military service, and Israel( since its a militia state and theres constant violence) In America that the whole purpose for the use of our military is to "protect our freedom and for safety issues". A mandatory service to the army would cause problems, because how about if we go to war, you freakin going to have people there that dont want to be there and when its time to battle they wont want to go or they will be scared tp shoot, and does the U.S want that? People that wont go to battle and that would just cause problems to the soldiers, since they wont know if their partner would have his back, meanwhile when you have people that want to join the military for their own will, most of them know what they are getting into and most importantly they will know the whole task and be less likely to be scared when its time to action( most of them). A draft should be the last resource the U.S should use. IMO if they are in a need for more military man and woman, increase the benefits the soldiers get, and use propoganda and brain wash them with all this wonderful things they will get if they join the military, not a bad idea.:D |

i think people should join for 2 years as well...
and arnold almost everything you said in your paragraph is done away with in basic training... its a proven method to make people not scared to shoot plus 98% of us here in Iraq dont want to be here at war either... and its not about oh im not gonna get your back... say you were forced to join the military and your buddy got shot sitting next to you.. you'd get his back and shoot at the guy who shot him.. and you'd also render aid to your friend.... and as far as knowing the task..they dont send you to war on your 3rd day in the service..you get trained for months and months..trust me.. everybody knows the task..
the only people that didnt make it through basic training were the suicidal ones and the ones with severe mental problems... any competent person can be in the military...
but.. I'm perfectly happy with it the way it is now.. I'm glad the military doesnt force people into doing what they dont want to do.. but in hind sight those that did do their time havent regretted it and know that it helped them in many ways that the real world cant...
when i was a senior in college i would have laughed at anybody if they told me id be in the Army... and look where i am now... a 1st Lieutenant in the Army for Field Artillery... :wtf: |

actually, several democratic countries also conscript for two years. germany, switzerland, ukraine, and others i cant think of. its not just the socialist ones. and the military already hands out some of the best benefits package of this entire country. |

Next, Hi Zewad. I quitly disagree with your position. Its totally diffrent to get a basic training before going to battle, then being mentaly prepare for war. I dont know if the basic training includes a mental training for soldiers, because as you know many times the problem is not either wether the soldier can shoot or not, its his mental state. I bet that you have many soldiers in Irqa right fuk up because of that, its hard for them. And you will see all this issues come up after the war is over, and there are basically people that had signed for the military, now imagine having yound ones like 18y.o in such a service that they dont want to be in and are just forced to? it will fuk them up lets be realistic, this people will be more affected than the others that are in the service for their own will.
