Finally Found
His name is Daniel Sylvester. He’s 31 years old. He’s a neighbour of missing Alicia Ross. And he’s now officially been charged with killing her.
Sylvester turned himself into police with his lawyer on Tuesday, and has been accused of being behind the disappearance of the 25-year-old. He’s been charged with second-degree murder and appeared in a Newmarket court on Wednesday. He’ll be back before the bench on Thursday.
“He's feeling great remorse,” his lawyer David Hobson relates. “His conscience got the better of him, and he's prepared to let the law take its course … He's feeling that the family next-door needed closure.”
Cops used the information Sylvester provided to check areas in both Port Perry and the Kawarthas and found what’s believed to be dismembered human remains.
“The necessary steps to positively identify these remains will obviously be taken," outlines York Regional Police Inspector Tom Carrique. "However, we believe the remains are those of Alicia Ross.”
Sylvester lives with his mother near the missing woman’s home, but cops are refusing to say anything more about him.
The investigation began in mid-August after the 25-year-old disappeared from her basement bedroom in Markham. She was last seen on the evening of August 16th by her boyfriend Sean Hine at the family home.
After saying goodbye to him she went inside the house. But something drew her back out again, without her keys, purse or even her shoes.
The next morning Ross failed to show up for work, and her car was still in the driveway.
There was no trace of her - apparently until Tuesday.
Cops set up a 24-hour hotline where people could call in with tips and information. And though details in the case have been few and far between, O.P.P. behavioural scientists felt she'd been abducted by someone she knew – allegedly, it now appears, a neighbour.
York Chief Armand La Barge offers his condolences to the family, and begs for their privacy.
“This is a very sensitive case that has ended tragically and our thoughts and our prayers remain with the Fortis-Ross family as they deal with this tragedy," he laments. "They are obviously devastated and I would ask that you respect their request for privacy as they cope with the loss of their much loved daughter."
The family did issue one brief statement – a thank you to the public, the volunteers and the police, all of whom never gave up hoping the case would somehow have a very different outcome. |

:( :( R.I.P.
May her family find some peace in having her body found. Even though it ended in a sad way, at least they won't have to keep wondering forever if there is the possibility that she is out there somewhere.
Hopefully the neighbour will recieve the maximun punishment given. |

Sick , yes.
Coward, yes.
Reduced jail sentence...oh yes.
this 'justice' system. Also, what does it really show for the competency of the police forces when someones NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR can just do this horror out of no where, and they didn't have a SINGLE piece of evidence going in the right direction. |

this was an isolated incident. Be smart yes, be scared and "careful?" no way. In every society in every time from the past to the future there will always be a small small number of sick ******s like this. By being scared all you do is let them win.
People say "oh i have to be more careful today because times have changed"
NONSENSE... i remember even 20 years ago when girls and boys disappeared. Its sad but true. But luckily it doesnt happen very often at all despite what the media might try and make you believe. |

| The world is getting scarier and scarier :( I hope that guy gets a new ripped for him while he is in jail (excuse the visual). But unfortunately he will get a reduced sentence because he came forward and sooner or later, he will plead insanity. This guy shouldn't even be tried in Canada! Send him to someplace where dogs would be having his balls for supper! |
