yeah, stay away from flash... what they said.
unless... unless you get it designed by that top 1% of world's flash designers and it actually looks stunning. sure, in that case you'd probably have to shell out $10,000+, but hey... price of quality flash design, you know. |

Something with a little flare is nice ;) |
Yeah I think these people are speaking from having visited some of the worst flash sites on the web, which take 2 years to load and being scattered as hell.. however, flash is very much functional according to how it is used (like any other tool out there), for creatives or personal sites I would encourage flash to create a unique web-experience, where of course if you're planning to open up an amazon.com like page, html would be more suitable for the task.
edit: sorry man, and to answer your question, it depends on how many pages your site has plus how far you want to push things with it. otherwise, you could probably land something very basic from $500-$1000 |

at my work, we visit graphic design and advertising companies websites
only times when flash has been used, the number of websites that are predominently flash based are barely 3-4%
theres a reason why the companies that do these things dont use flash much too u know ;) |

When you say table layout I hope you mean use CSS to achive a tabular layout. Using actual tables for layout purposes causes pages to render slower and taxes the webserver a lot more. edit: I should say, uses more bandwidth. |

I don't know what kinds of studios these sites belong to, but even people like joshua davis, james patterson, yugo, etc.. these are world leading designers and for me, I would take the chance learning from them. It's pretty much basic to have your work set up on a neutral html page with direct links and such, but this is becoming a huge trend for most design studios that's why I would stick with flash, it allows that much more freedom of expression to present your information in whatever way you want. |

This discussion is completely pointless unless the PURPOSE of the site is mentioned.
Is the site being put up to draw traffic via a search engine or is it meant to display information where attracting NEW traffic isn't the point?
You can't say Flash is "good" or "bad" without getting into the purpose for using/not using it in the first place.
Go to a industry show and see what cutting edge developers and designers are doing with Flash these days, then come back and say it's crap ;) |

The site is gonna be one of the main promotional tools that lauren will be using for her new business. Pictures, event listings, industry news and new mixes.
THanks for the input guys. All being taken into consideration.
