i wasnt at laurent. during sander my friends weren't liking it so we left. we were there for about 15 minutes.

Here are some quote en quote "bullet" points:
- It was GREAT to see so many TA's out; though the highlight had to be meeting the elusive Private Jonze! But all in all, seeing Chris, Andy, Yuris, Christen, Juliet, and Marv was awesome, hopefully we'll have similar showing for Armin (I know, I know... hate hate hate) and Lawler (And again, I know... Miami Miami Miami)!
- Soundbar was great for tonight, and even though it was a light crowd and I'm sure Dekay was maybe a little disappointed in the fact that after 3 there were like 15 people there, but whatever, he kept rocking it like the place was full until 4 when they kicked him off the decks and kicked us out of the club.
- Dekay = Amazing. I'd go see this guy again tomorrow if I had the opportunity. Dutch House FTW! :happy2:
- Only complaint about the night at all (And let me stress, this was still probably my favorite night out since JXL in August); Soundbars sound is weak. Too much rumbling, crappy, distorted bass. Not that it's unlistenable, but for a place called "Soundbar" that looks like it had about a million hours poured into just making the place look "hip," it seems they could have spent a little more time on the sound. It was the same for Sasha in June.
Just my thoughts for the moment... But now it's time for breakfast potatoes... :toothless |

ok, so now that i've recovered and the weekend is coming to an end, here is the official lucid review of Mr. Matthew Dekay...
long review:
i went into the night with very few expectations... i had never been to Soundbar before and i have never seen Dekay and haven't heard any recent sets of his, but from recent reviews of his sets in other cities it sounded like i was really going to enjoy it... and saying that i "enjoyed" it would be an understatement. his set ing BLEW me away! it was exactly what i wanted to hear and it just kept getting better and better as the night went on.
i was diggin' Chus & Ceballos but i wasn't really paying attention all that much 'cause i was just enjoying socializing with all the TAs that showed up. when Dekay came on he started off kind of slow and steady, good music but nothing that was too in-your-face... then the last 2 hours were just sooo chugging and melodically trousey, i was really into it. i remember looking at my watch and it was 3am and i was just thinking "holy , it can't be 3am already!!"... i'd have to say that his set is by far one of the best sets i've heard this year.
of course i think what made the night so great was seeing so many TAs out! it was sooo awesome to finally meet you, Private Jonze, and i'm glad you stuck it out until the end with us! i hope work wasn't too rough for you on saturday. Chris - i'm glad you came out and i'm glad we had a chance to talk more... i can't wait to party with you outside of a club sometime. i felt so bad that you didn't have anyone to talk to on the ride home! glad you made it back okay. Christen - always awesome to see you out, see you @ Armin next weekend! Sumeet - sorry i couldn't find you and i couldn't hear anything when you called my cell phone! and of course all the other TAs... Marv, James, Yuris, Andy, Juliet... it's pretty much guaranteed to be a kickass night when there's a huge showing of TAs!
i wish i could have IDed more songs from his set, but i think the one song that i was most excited to hear was Paradise Soul - Lotta Lovin' (Sucker DJs Mix). the strings and melody in that song just own me... Digifruitella and Aftermath were also awesome to hear.
other than the sound, i really liked Soundbar. it's a very clean and sharp looking place, and the crowd wasn't too heavy which was nice. it really emptied out by the end but it was cool that Dekay was still really into it even though there were only a few people on the floor.
between having a kick ass time on friday night, and ordering my decks on saturday, i'd have to say this weekend has been soooooo amazingly sweet! :D

OK, I guess it's about time I posted a review....
First off, it was so cool to walk in the club and see Rob, Myra, Christen, Andy and the rest of the TAs right there. I came with a bunch of Dekay newbies, so I'm sorry I wasn't able to hang out more, but it was great to hang for a while.
Rob, let me know how I can get you some of MD's recent live sets. They are amazing, esp. the Global DJ Broadcast set from 9/8/05.
I agree with what has been said, pretty damn amazing. I was suprised how long Matthew was actually standing up at the booth before he came on, but I guess for the whole "versus" thing, he had to be there. I took off about 3ish cause my friends were tired, but I was soooooo bummed I missed Digifruitella.
Definitely going to make an effort to catch him at the WMC this year. See you all at Armin!! |

if im not mistaken that was a rebroadcast of the first hour of his set from sweet chilli from last year. that was an amazing set. |
