lots of hate going on here
I really wouldnt know if he has become worse, as there are no livesets available lately (> 1 year), well some bad quality and some short ones (but you can count them on one hand)...
The disneyland set wasnt too great in terms of mixing, although he played some nice tracks. The Tiesto In Concert dvd 2004 was alright, in fact, i kind of enjoyed it. Thats all i can remember. If tiesto wants his fans to come back, he should consider giving out more sets to radio stations (like all other big djs do nowadays) and try to be more focussed on faultless mixing as well as playing less tech trance...
imo btw |

don't see why he would want his old fans to come back though when he's got plenty of new ones?
personally.. so long as he isn't going for the commercial edge & caining just be/traffic/adagio etc in every set then i don't think he's gotten a whole lot worse in terms of track selection. and to be honest i'd rather hear averagely mixed tracks i like than seamlessly mixed tracks i don't. although as clovis pointed out once i kinda think he'd benefit alot from using ableton :wtf: . it's just his popstar image & constant desire to be bigger than jesus, which i despise
and mehh i like the techtrance he plays ;) (some would pour scorn on calling it that but alas... the 'harder' end of his playlists).. absolutely loved the last hour or so of the disneyland set tunewise
speaking of livesets, there's an essential mix from early august (cream@amnesia) which was okay, if a little too warmy-uppy for the first half. some nice tunes in the second half though. |

| Tiesto is a master at selling himself to a larger audience than clubbers only, which obviously doesn't make him the best DJ in the world. He's just a guy that mixes other people's records and maybe a few of his own (which all sound about the same). His sets have no surprises because he just can't affort to experiment with other melodies and basslines than the ones he is known for. Where the other 2 DJ Mag favorites use techno and progressive influences to show their creativity, Tiesto has to be careful not to scare the housewifes away. I think he took marketing too far unlike PvD and Armin who are balancing on the edge of selling out but in the end still be true to the music |
