| I dont understand and have never understood why in the world do ppl call the US america, people America is a freakin continent not only the US, most of u wont give a damn about this cuz u dont live in the American continent but it just pisses me off to see that does stupid imperialist want on top on makin most American countries dependant on them they also want the freakin name damn those bastards :mad: |

| puh I dont know...when did the name for the continent officially occur? USA has america in its name...and the continet is not called america, its called north and south america I guess...no real answer though, perhaps the people are to lazy to say threr words rather than one? |

Well your post wasnt very clear..i am taking it that u are Canadien and are upset that some people outside of North America call you an American just because you live on North America...am i right???...
Well just a little information...American people are actually ALL people who live in North and South America by definition...look it up in the dictionary...its the same way people call Ducth, German, English, French ETC....people Europeans....or people who live in China, Japan, Vietnamese, Thai ETC....we call them Asian...
I dont think its an insult, its just a generalization.....so if your post was to bash people because they associate you with citizens of the Unites States of America that doesnt make much sense....
We call its the United States of America because when we came here we started off with few states then colonized more and more states..hence the word United....and where were those states United...YES on North America....so maybe they should have called it The United States of North America..or even better the United States of Southeren North America......either way...its a generalization...like the way we call people African, European, or Asian....not that big of deal..America is not that bad to be associated with... |

Boy that definition is interesting.....never thought of it that way.
Btw.....i'm not mad that ppl call me americans or something (i'm half american anyways). My point is that it gets annoying after awile. But your definition is interesting.......ima do some more reading about this. |

America is just short for UNITED STATES OF AMERICA....u say America, and ppl know you are talking about the US of A... Canada = Canada is NOT AMERICA, anybody confusing this is a retard...

What do you think came first: United States of America or tha naming of the North and South American Continent??
actually this is an interesting question...maybe someone should look it up to see whether it wouldve been a good idea or not to have the US of A named the US of SOuthern/North America...
