jesus, posting on this forum is a complete waste. Half of the time all I get are these smart ass comments (*cough*charon*cough*RoBDaWG). For those of you who did contribute, thanks, and I'll take some your advice carefully. I came here for help, not to hear some poor schmucks give their two usless cents. And no, its not "just a website" you tool, its a government recognized s-corporation with just a few employees and a little bit of capital; the same way every label is set up. F - off....

I'm sure this will give your potential customers on TA a good first impression. Well done. |

| i got enough of an impression through the fact that he started a label yet he doesn't know nearly anything about them. |

allcentury18,
Sounds good! Cant wait to hear em! Starting a label is hard work you guys. Just like any business, its about learning through mistakes and asking others for help and advice. When someone gives me a smart ass answer, it gets me frusterated. Im not here to impress anyone, just get a few questions answered to see if Im doing things correctly and what not. Personally, pissing off a few people really doesnt matter. Any business will do that from time to time.
The website was kicked off about two weeks ago, and we did some SERIOUS networking at the Armin show at crobar (Armin got one and put it in his pocket....after we gave him 3 or four and he kept signing them we had to write, "dont sign, keep." hahah) . The only artists signed to the label now include myself and a friend (whos running the label along with me). We are still working some bugs out with the site, although our forums are up, and we do want people to post things on them including their own mixes and productions for review.
The label still is in its infancy. There is no such thing as a label starting up and within 3 weeks they have 6 artists, tons of capital, distribution, pressing contracts, and a marketing/AR/PR section. Takes time.
So for all you haters on the TA forums, leave the comments to people contributing in a positive fashion, and be patient! Im sure you'll hear a lot about our tiny label in the months to come :D

for people to take the label seriously, the first step is to create a unique and professional image behind it.
for starters have a professional website, sorry but the current site looks terrible
more importantly as stated before only release very high quality music
better to have 5 amazing tracks than 50 bad ones, it all goes towards reputation & respect, if you build a reputation based on quality releases artists will respect that and will aim to get their own songs released by the label and customers will know what to expect from the label and will keep coming back, if it's the opposite, artists will keep away and so will the customers.
of course from a financial standpoint that may not sound great, but i believe building and keeping a good reputation is THE most important part of running a successful label. |

Serp,
Now THAT is a good reply!!! Thanks for the feedback! Yea, I have been hearing some mixed things about the site. It's not really complete yet, as some revisions will be made and a bit of Flash to make it come alive. But for now, when the money is tight, thats all i could afford. It serves its purpose well for now.
Of course, we do intend on releasing only very high quality tracks, and to help, I include all the employees as well as already signed artists to chime in and give their opinions on a track we are considering. I want as many people's opinions as possible for our submissions.
Thanks again Serp, hopefully I'll get more replies like this.

i agree with serp. not sure it was a good idea to give out the link to the site before it's even finished. maybe take a look at the writing, for instance:
| quote: | | It wasn't until Chris played a memorable set at Avalon in NYC as well as a small crowd set in Virginia. With both of them in school, it would be difficult, but the trance duo swears they are up to the challenges, and promise to make Linear Recording the leading force in premier electronic music! |
what is the idea behind the name btw?
lin·e·ar (ln-r)
adj.
1. Of, relating to, or resembling a line; straight.
2.
a. In, of, describing, described by, or related to a straight line.
b. Having only one dimension.
do you plan on releasing straight-forward, one-dimensional music? |

hold a press release. what kind of corporation are you running? Close, open or S-corp?
press release is the most important thing when u just started a new showbusiness company. try to get yourself out there. |

Haak,
We wanted to jump on the chance at the Armin concert. Perhpas it was a little pre-mature, but we did want to get out name out. We handed out about 70 brief 60 minute mixes done by Chris, and included our business cards within the sleeve. We just wanted a little exposure and to show people, "hey, we're coming...".
The term linear refers to our straight-foward, no frills releases. We wanted 'Stealth Recordings' but thats already taken. Our style is going to be a fusion of some very hard and dirty techy stuff with some nice epic touches. Basically very loud, energetic, bangin stuff. Great for the clubs. We also would like to venture into the progressive genres, as Chris, my associate, has quite the ear for it.
Lepanto,
In terms of a press release, we do plan on holding an event focused around the labels first releases. In fact, The Spyder Club in NYC has offered to host the event within the next few weeks. Perhaps some time in early november. And yes, it is an S-corp. |

but there is, in almost all cases, the reason behind it being simple - they have everything planned out BEFORE starting the label, including a release schedule, ties with distribution (if not solid contracts), ties with promotion and lawyers to work with them if applicable, among other things. |

Psy-T,
Not always true. Release scheduals come as the artists come and go. A label first starting up must first work on several business ties as well as collecting as much funds as possible from many sources (lenders/ creditors/investors). Distribution is then arranged after a business plan has been provided and is operational. Each label does its lot of work differently. In Linear's case, a lawyer is working for us, and we are in the process of setting up distribution. Things come slowly for some and quicker for others. All depends on whom you initially know, and how well your connections are. For example, I have a close family friend who is our acting lawyer already. I also have several creditors willing to lend a hand once our structuring is complete. Our distribution is in pending, as well as our pressing. We're learning as we go. Its a rough road, but pretty soon Linear will be in full swing. Just takes time and patience. |

Good luck with Linear Recordings.
I don't know if this might help but there are some Central American producers with talent that might not have a label yet. They might have gone with Santiago Nino's but you might as well try. The website is http://www.istmomusic.com/ , Vikuna aka Fernando Kriete opened for Ferry Corsten and I must say he was better than Ferry for Ferry's first part of the set. Good Luck anyways |
