It's funny. It just really hit me.
By the time I get home from work Friday, I will have filed for Bankruptcy. Before the new laws take effect. Here I am, 26 years old and will have that big black mark on my record for 6 years. Ugh.
I'm doing all this w/o an attorney...because in the end, I couldn't even afford one. Ugh. I spend my money way too easily. I have used a professional preparer and just got all my documents to file...
But in the end, a huge burden will be off my back. $28,000+ in debt w/ no car or valueable property to show for it. I got into it all by being young and completely stupid. Most of the debt occured when I was 18-22 or 23. And spent it all on crap...and during the time when I'd go out 4-5 nights a week paying for entry then spend $100+ on drinks between me and my friends (I used to tend to by rounds of shots). I still remember that one night in...2001 I think where a bunch of friends and I decided to an amazing Karaoke Bar and I spent over $700 in booze. Interestingly, I never really had issues being able to live on the edge and was able to pay all my credit cards, loans, etc just fine until late 2002 when crazy stuff with my roommate at the time went on (some my fault for letting my old roomy out of the lease, some my landlord who told me the day before my new roomy was to move in that he couldn't forcing me to pay $1700 in rent + all utilities unexpectedly) causing my having to divert money I'd used to pay off my usual credit card bills to my rent...and then a chain reaction slowly occured from then until mid-late 2003 when my world collapsed on me and I simply was unable to pay any monthly credit stuff...then I chose love over money I spent every dime I had going to LA every weekend that I could for a year to visit muh girlfriend until she was able to come up here.
Everything I have is at least 5 years old...that is, the stuff that I have that still works. :-\
AGHHHH!!!!! My brain hurts. But glad this is about to be over...supposing the court doesn't reject my filing...in which, I'm completely screwed as I'll have to wait another 6 months to file and it'll go by the new laws then. UGH! UGH!
This is bittersweet. I really need to shut up. LOL. Sorry to bother you with my annoying life. :p |

| I lost so much money in Las Vegas before and after the Ferry show in July that it took me 3 months to recover. My parents had to bail me out or else I would be in a similar situation. I never thought I would sink so low as to become addicted to gambling :( :( :( |

If this was 10 years ago, I could have probably used my parents...my mother ran a hospital and made good money and all...then one day she suddenly quit and went back to just being a regular old Nurse (which make money in Florida compared to most other places)...in the end, my parents lost the house they had built and had to file bankruptcy. This was probably around 2002 when all of it was done.
So can't ask them to help out these days, although things are going pretty well for them as they recover from their bankruptcy. |

Well if the court clerk accepts my filing, I will hopefully not even have to go to court. Will just have to meet with some trustee in a month or two who will just ask me a few simple questions and that's that. How it works here.
My parents had to go to court (in Florida), but they were in the court room for about 90 seconds according go them. Were just asked one or two questions by the judge and case was over. |

Dave, I hope everything works out for you man. One good thing to point out is that although it will be on your record for that period of time, you will be able to buy a home after 2 or so years. Most lenders (including the one I work for) overlook BKs after 2 years from discharge. So at least theres a silver lining in that you won't have to wait 6-7 years to buy a home. :)
